Guys - Adrian DID ask him to repost it. Just so we're clear on that. The militant atheist creator of the site asked him to. Just sayin'.

Christopher Hitchens (1949-2011)

Hmmm..... this is what annoyed me.
Quote:We do not know if he turned to Christ; there is no reason to suppose he did and plenty of reasons to think he did not. And that is a sad and sober thing, for on the day that he stands before the throne of God he would have nothing to which he can appeal but the 62 years he lived from April 13, 1949, until December 15, 2011 The bleating of pious idiots.
Oh, and that's the other thing - it was reposted from a Christian website. So while I'm not defending Ryft's beliefs, I am saying that he opened this thread up for your own reflections on Hitch, which could be in rebuttal to his own or merely just your musings on how Hitch inspired you. This was never meant to be on this forum, but because Adrian shares an abiding friendship with Ryft he asked him to visit back again.

Oh okay, I apologize then Ryft I should have read closer.
The fact that Ryft was asked to post the tribute from another forum is not a problem to me. It doesn't mean I'm going to overlook the several offensive remarks within the tribute though.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.
That's perfectly fine - but Ryft reserves the right to ask that you do so in PM, on his site, or in email, and to ask that this thread remain open for postings of the kind he requested. Same as we would do should you complain about the content of one of your threads. I'll leave it up to him.
Hitchens did more to advance rational thought in the face of adversity than most any other atheist I can think of.
Trying to update my sig ...

Oh ok guys, only reply with agreement at the offensive, mindless drivel on display. I don't give a monkeys who told him to post it, or what Ryft wants us to do with his thread. Shall I just make a thread saying 'All Christians are knobheaded pricks and should have their balls removed with a rusty knife, by the way please respond in agreement or not at all'? Would that fly? I didn't realise that posting a thread here meant you had control over its content. Like I said: If he wants the post to stand unchallenged, lock the thread. I hear moderators can do that sort of thing. Quote:Shall I just make a thread saying 'All Christians are knobheaded pricks and should have their balls removed with a rusty knife, Make it a poll. Oh wow, Eld. Just wow. Blow everything I say out of freakin' proportion, straw man it up.
That response was beneath you. For one, my prince, no one ever goddamn said you couldn't disagree with what he wrote. I was only reminding a few people of what he intended this thread to be. If you don't like it, don't post in it. If you have a problem with what he said, make a new thread. I do believe regular members have that power. But if someone requests that a thread take a certain tone or direction, we can and have directed members to move their related discussions elsewhere. Or is it because I politely asked on a Christian's thread? |
