Christians for a Moral America (excuse me while I gag at the very name) is apparently taking a hit at Peter Jackson's Hobbit:

Christian tolerance....you gotta love it.

It's an extremist Christian group... pick any extremist group and you'll see the same kinds of things.

Oh they do, though they're still idiots. Their beef is that Jackson didn't make it Christian enough for them ~rolls eyes~ whoop-dee-friggin-doo

Idiots like that will never be satisfied until every book, magazine, poster space, screen and brain is filled with nothing but the picture of a naked bloke nailed to a stick. Then they'll still whine about society not being xtian enough.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

This group makes me glad I'm no longer a Christian.
I do not think it is necessary to believe that the same God who has given us our senses, reason, and intelligence wished us to abandon their use, giving us by some other means the information that we could gain through them

Quote:even though the books had strong Christian undertones (good vs evil; Christians vs Atheists)

LOL...WHAT?!?!?! There is nothing specially christian about good vs. evil...many religions have taken on this theme for their stories, such as the Viking religion, which was the religion used to write The hobbit about. Gandalf is an Icelandic king of the elves in the Eddas (the religious writting of the Vikings).

JRR relied heavily on Viking mythology for his writtings. Most of the dwarf and elf names come directly from norse mythology. Vikings considered elves and dwarves to be spirits of the earth... kind of like angels in a sense.

This reminds me of conservapedia's declaration that the bible is too liberal bent and they needed to be a more conservative bible.... to take out the liberal bias.... from the bible.

So what these people have decided is that a novel written by a devout christian isn't christian enough and because there's magic in it, it's therefore evil.
I guess if it's Jesus' or god's magic, it's "miracles" but if god isn't doing hte magic, it's witchcraft.

Frikken psychopaths.
If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925

Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~Ronald Reagan
