I've disocvered a great many things since joining the world of the intertubes. I've discovered not one but several communities of like-minded atheists and liberals and well as unparalelled access to music, movies, literature, and knowledge.
This thread is about NONE of those things.
In addition to the usual internet horrors, I've been exposed to more non-religious nuttery than I know what to do with. It truely boggles my small and imperfect human mind just how stupid this pseudo-scientific garbage spread across the internet can be and some of it is widespread enough to force people with Ph.Ds and jobs in actual science to actually have to interrupt their schedules and tell people not to listen to garbage.
I'm interested in knowing just how nutty things are out there and I wouldn't mind your respective perspectives on these matters in the spirit of making fun of people with a lot of imagination and very little in the way of knowledge and/or wits mixed with genuine crazy.
I'm not as interested in the usual spiritual or religious nuttery unless it strays from that norm significantly enough to be interesting.
I'll lead things off with a few youtube videos of the kind of thing I'm talking about.

This is perhaps the most infamous example of quackery I've discovered since entering the internet. The wisest human of all seems nice enough - he's like that crazy uncle that everyone loves to be around but when you talk to him about the world ... whooooOOOOooo!
Time Cube! He will BLOW. YOUR. MIND.

The planet Nibiru. I remember being excited about hearing about a massive planet with a highly elliptical orbit around the sun. Then I read on and learned about space lizards... and the mayan calander has something to do with it....
I am saddened that NASA has had to tell people on a public forum that this is not a real thing.

Disproven by plate techtonics for far longer than I've been alive. I can't even believe that this is a thing. This violates just about all of science - notably thermal dynamics. In this house, we OBEY THE LAWS OF THERMODYNAMICS.
Idiots say the darndest things. ENJOY!

If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925
Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~Ronald Reagan
