Well, it doesn't really matter if I live closeby. I'm not particularly concerned about Israelis or Jews, I never met a single one in my entire life.

Really?? Yet you hold such seemingly strong views. Or am i mistaken??

Maybe the reason you haven't met many is because they are all over here in Australia. I have met many over many decades and found them to be just nice people, same with muslims, hindus, xtians et al.

I think I have stated elsewhere that it is the "fundies" that irritate me the most. I don't go knocking on your door to "give you the good news" so I expect you not to do the same to me.
There were once jews in Turkey, like in İzmir, where the large elevator today stands, but according to my grandmother, they emigrated to Israel in masses on ships, when it was founded.
I hold strong views, but my views are not bent on harboring unnecessarily, over-emotional views of one foreign group. Those who build their views upon the dislike of some other group mostly find their ideology crumble after some time...Just like with the old MHP nationalists(we differ on some terms with them), who were opposed to communists, now they don't know what they actually are. We too, are opposed to communism, but it's gone now. We knew that it would not last forever, our founding fathers knew this already when they accepted help from the Soviets, however, did not turn communist as the Soviets expected us to be. Because they knew it would not last.
So, why harbor any dislike towards Israel for any reason? It's obvious that after some time, the situation will settle, and the Israel-arab thing will fade into obscurity by one or the other means.
Jews...Well, we're actually supposed to be on better terms with them, if not being too friendly, than our former subjects, and we helped them in the past on a few occasions, so we go a while back, but really, I do not expect gratitude, as we certainly have no need for it, nor do I wish that we socialize too much with their kind, as we do with the arabs now. Not on a personal level, of course, but on like a national level.
The current government is being too friendly towards them, as we had an obligation to be their saviours, and we certainly do not, not while our own brothers are under attack.
My own opinion is, that we should be neutral with those whom do not present a threat to us, or any of our kin, and hostile with those who hold our brethren in bondage. Today, it's quite the reverse, we're on good terms with Iran, Russia and China, and on bad terms with Israel and Arab countries. It makes no sense.

Well, people are the governments.
I won't lie, as I sense the anti-israeli sentiment that is on the rise in Turkey.
It has been artificially created, true, since we harbored no traditional dislike towards jews throughout the time, nor such exceptional friendship, but were generally neutral, as they were mostly loyal subjects of the Empire, more so than some others. But well, they are gone now, so why worry?
They have their own country, which is fine by me, and they're at odds with some arabs, who had a history of stabbing us in the back with forks, and we still support the arabs?
I don't think that the ummah mentality applies here, if it did, it'd certainly apply back then when the arabs were flaunting our laws, harboring our enemies.
It seems like they had gone unpunished, for now at least...
The jews? They were happy to sit back in their homes and generally stay out of the conflict zone back in those days.
Since remaining neutral was in and of itself, a rather honourable deed where the rest turned traitor, I keep that in mind, and generally harbor no ill will.
But I can't say I trust them more than the arabs themselves, with or without governments.
It's just the way it has to be, you see. Not on a "personal" level, like you and me sitting and having a cup of tee. But I see the international Jewry as a nation of it's own right, just as I see the Turks of the world as a single nation.
So I remain skeptical of any of their moves towards us as a nation.
But as I said, on a personal level, I am skeptical towards everyone. Who can you really trust beside yourself and the spirit of your kin?

Have to agree mate... certainly not governments. And personal friends and relatives?? Well. Been there done that got the T-shirt and the DVD. Still I would like to think that the majority of people everywhere are reasonable...I am so often disappointed. meh Dunno

Well, I speak of myself in two terms.
I am, myself, an individual. And I, as an individual, am part of a larger nation that is compromised of kin in blood and tongue.
I rather put my trust in these.
Not that I do not trust my relatives to assist me in dire times of need, but I rather trust myself first.
Governments...Well, as I said, with the current system of democracy, governmetns come and go, with public opinion ever changing...So what really matters? I don't trust them, but I'd rather have every Turk with a healthy measure of skepticism towards such..politicians, whose loyalties are always under question, in my eyes, at least.
