Hi everyone!
I stumbled across these forums the other day and instantly felt at home here so thought I'd register and join in! I'm a 32 year old (young..) guy from the North East of England. I was thinking the other day when I first started considering myself to be an Atheist and I feel I always have been, well as a kid I suppose I believed what I was told but my folks are both scientists (chemist and biologist) so I was always taught to question things from an early age.
I always had a passion for science and did my degree in Applied Physics which has over the years turned me into a very sceptical and cynical person! lol. I know its very politically incorrect to say but I'm sure you won't mind, that I have nothing but utter contempt for any form of organised religion. How anyone can swallow and actually believe in all that nonsense really infuriates me, it may sound very arrogant of me but I just wish they could see the world through my eyes for just a few minutes and they would see the wonder I see but without any need for supernatural explanations!
Thats not to say I am close minded, I'm prepared to listen to any and all evidence and if I can see merit in the argument I am more than willing to re-evaluate my opinions - that is afterall what a good scientist does!
Anyway, I look forward to many debates with all you enlightened people!

The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what's true - Carl Sagan
