I continue to say this but where I live the word "atheist" has no relevence among youths. Claiming a belief in a god is seen as farfetched. Doncaster is quite the opposite of America.

Luke, may I ask - what do you mean when your religious views say: SOMEWHAT atheist?

Either you believe in God or you don't. If you don't you are an atheist. So what do you mean by somewhat atheist?

Ha, I never thought of it like that. The reason I set my view to "somewhat atheist" is merely a sarcastic jumbling of words. If you imagine Christopher Hitchens being asked his stance on God after a brutally anti-theistic talk he may jokingly say "well you may not have noticed this, but I am at least somewhat atheistic". If you picture it that way you might get my gist. I consider myself to be an atheist in every sense of the word (the only sense of the word), and it's almost in jest that I say "well clearly, I'm something of an athesit".

Y'know, I can't really explain why I set my view that way. I suppose I'll just change it now you've brought it up

Yeah, sarcasm I see. I thought it might be that but it could also be interpreted perhaps that you are 'not that sure' - and you didn't understand that either you're an atheist or you're not. And there's not really a such thing as 'somewhat atheist'.

So it confused me a bit perhaps...and perhaps it's a bit confusing but...

Is Doncaster "quite the opposite" of the rest of the UK? I live in Kent, was born is Sussex, studied in London and lived in both Nottingham and Ipswich. Ev is British too.

Kyuu, I couldn't possibly tell you. I haven't experienced much outside of Doncaster. If those areas you've mentioned have at least an average distribution of theists then Doncaster would be quite the opposite (in the youths at least). Just the other day I was walking out my biolgoy lesson when I heard a kid scream "OH MY GOD!" and another taunted him by saying "haha! you believe in god " to which the first fiercely replied "No I don't!!". That sort of attitude is widespread here.
