RE: Strippers, Prostitutes, and Respectability
The stigma is what I would want to be removed, Shell, and most of that comes from religion, which is why I wanted that portion of it out of the conversation for just a moment.

As for potential, my ex had the potential to be an awesome fuckin' architect. Smart as shit about it. Same as he is REALLY good with cars. He works in computer security where he's mediocre - for his step dad, I might add. But it lets him live in the mountains with his hill billy wife, which is all he cares about.

I have lots of potential talents. I can draw. I can paint. I could play piano again if I wanted to. I used to be able to sing. I'm excellent in history and literature when I apply myself. I suck at math, but I suppose if I had gotten extra tutoring, I'd be riding the waves as a marine biologist now. Plants don't require a lot of smarts from the horticulture side - just an affinity for them. My point for both is that there's wasted potential EVERYWHERE but you have to do what you love OR do something that pays for you to do what you love.

If I had the body and talent (and confidence) to strip and knew it earned far more than what I make now, fuck yeah I would. I realize DBP joked that guys aren't that picky, but seriously - I have no rhythm. It would be a laughingstock. If something like that earned me enough to live in a nice place while going back to school, to save money for once instead of living hand in mouth, and paid for my gardening, which is my real passion, I'd do it. I hate where I work now - endless days of bullshit with no physical activity and no more self-respect than a stripper may or may not have. That's just the way I see it though.

I don't argue that most probably do it for the money.

And just for the strawmen slingers in the room, I wrote this years ago, so you can stop pretending I'm on the opposite side of the argument just because you don't like me. Big Grin

Damn. I'm racking my brain here to think of a practical difference between the two.

Did I say there was anything wrong with doing it to pay for your college education and moving on to do something else? Nope. I was a chef for ten years before I did this. I didn't sell drugs or my body. Though I used both at my whim. Tongue

I'm sure you did use both at your whim. Man, that's so much classier than getting paid for it.

Was that a bid for attention? I could've sworn that it was me just being honest, saying something that's been on my mind for a while now. Nice deflection, though. I've noticed you're a champ at that, and it's the cheapest defense mechanism there is, btw.

And, I would think absolutely no differently of you if you were a stripper or a prostitute. Our conversations would not change, though talking about work might be superficially different.

People who just love having sex are typically termed "sluts" not "prostitutes." I love having sex. You can call me a slut. Tongue Anyway, you don't have to get paid to have sex to enjoy it. You can still play the piano and do something else for a living, right? I'm sorry. You would just be hard pressed to convince me that any woman goes into prostitution with options, a good head on her shoulders and financial means. She might not mind it. She might even love her job. That does not mean she just did it because she liked it.

Oh, yeah. You're such a boss at ignoring the actual conversation and going for the petty dig. Yeah, it is classier than getting paid for it. Sorry if the mirror is a little harsh, Alei. Were you suffering delusions that prostitution and stripping is somehow better than being in a meaningful relationship? Seriously, I don't see how painting it for what it is can be seen as wrong. I'm not against it. I'm all for it. I've actually defended you from people insulting you for your profession. I banned a guy for tearing into you about your kids and what you do. Does it bother you that I'm not a skank? Sorry.

Don't kid yourself, sweetheart. I have no need to deflect your insults. You take logic and lack of emotional attachment to your hundred and one "Don't you dare fucking judge me" topics as deflection. That's fine. Sorry I don't get as riled up as you.

ROFLOL For a self-proclaimed psychiatrist, you have very little insight. "Ice Princess." Classic.

Level of intelligence required to get out of bed? The means to choose something else for a living?
