Before I start, I'd like to add that there is a distinction between being of the "lower classes" and being poor. Just because you are above the poverty line does not mean you're middle-class.
Now, to my response.
Yes, the middle class upholds values.
At least in your parts of the world, it does.
Here, middle class, low class...It really doesn't matter. Because we all try to share and uphold these values(the only difference lies in how we do that). You obviously don't.
When I look at the lower sections of the western world, I see that drugs, promiscuity, illegitimate children, alcoholism and other things are more rampart, along with children moving out of their parent's home, while people who are even poorer resort to various jobs like prostitution, drug dealing, and other violent crime and/or property crimes.
Now tell me how the poor folks around your part contribute to the upholding of your traditional values.

I think that this is due to the fact that these poor people have to live in a part of the world which is a lot richer than the rest of the world, and the social stress that this brings is a lot higher.

I was just about to tell you how things work around here, but I guess that you're probably not interested. But I must say that I do give a lot of consideration to the poor of my own people.

I'm just stating the obvious, reverend. I'm just the messenger.
It's up to you, to recognize this fact and do something about it. Or you can close your eyes and maintain the notion that traditional values were "backwards" for anyone to uphold them, and curse the middle class for doing something about it.
Mainly, because the lower classes are people who can spare little to add some spice to their leisure time. This is why drugs, promiscuity and other vices prevail in these classes, with no social stigmas to hold people off of it.
In my country, there exists a certain social law that prevents people from fucking and doing drugs all around(at least openly, which still greatly reduces how widespread it is). The people in the west have lifted the much needed social boundaries that kept their society from decay.

To this man, other people's children are irrelevant. I'm not sure how much relevancy he sees in his own children, if he has any, and says that the OP should not have children because he plans to raise them properly.

It's not the TV. Although I've never met them face to face, I've been associating with people overseas through the internet for years.
Some lived in America, some lived in places like Thailand.
And I have lived for some time in the western world myself, to testify to what I'm saying here.
I can also testify that, if not for the social boundaries we have here, the lower classes would probably descend into the same madness that is taking foothold in the western world.
Thankfully, our people are keen to preserve their traditions, and families with whatever they have, whether they're piss poor, or lesiurely rich, or somewhere in between.
When we know something is bad, we do not just stay ourselves, and close our eyes.
