Apologies if this has come up before; I did search but got swamped.
On the edition of "Friday Night, Saturday Morning" of 9 November 1979, hosted by Tim Rice, a discussion was held about the then-new film Monty Python's Life of Brian, which been banned by many local councils and caused protests throughout the world with accusations that it was blasphemous. To argue in favour of this accusation were broadcaster and noted Christian Malcolm Muggeridge and the now-late Mervyn Stockwood (then Bishop of Southwark). In its defence were two members of the Monty Python team, John Cleese and Michael Palin.
The first part is an interview with Cleese and Palin, the debate proper starts 3 minutes into part 2. See how many familiar (read: tired) old clichés you can spot!
Also worth noting is that apparently Muggeridge and Stockwood turned up fifteen minutes late went they went to see the film, so missed the whole point of it (i.e. it wasn't about Jesus).

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
