Any other modders / game devs here?

Any other modders / game devs here?
I'm an amateur modder myself. I was working on a Fallout 3 TC, but it looks like I probably won't continue it. I'm looking at the CryEngine 3 right now Smile

I'm a 3D modeler and texture artist myself, but I also do scripting and music.

I've modded Skyrim and Fallout 3 a bit. I tried to learn C++, but I gave up. Big Grin

Also, I am not pretending to be female, this profile picture is my wonderful girlfriend. XD

I've done some work on Rome Total War and am involved in a beta test of Darthmod's latest update to Empire Total War.

I try to stay away from the graphics shit, though. I leave that to the young guys.

I'm a modder, and an aspiring dev.

I'm currently working with the UDK, but I'm unable to figure out why anyone making a game engine would make it so difficult to apply a simple texture to the ground. All the modding software I've used has allowed me just to "paint" the terrain... But no doubt I'll figure it out eventually. It's amazing how much time everything takes compared with what you'd initially think.

Does the CryEngine 3 require licensing? I assume it must, being a very high-end new engine.
Edit: I just checked. It's free unless you sell games, it's even fine to give them away. Nice!

About 4 years ago now, when I was in the first year of my first degree, a friend and I made a 3D variant of Tetris for the Xbox (yes, you could also play it on the PC, but trust me, you wouldn't want to).

Me and a couple of friends have been contemplating an attempt at designing a simple game.. However, it may be awhile before any actual coding or graphics designing is started.

It rotated and flashed on and off very fast. Not too good for people with epilepsy.

I've been modding games since I was 15 (Doom Wads). I have a lot less time to devote to modding these days with work & a fiance, but currently I run an Neverwinter Nights server full of custom content, some of it I even made myself. I've also contributed to the PRC for NWN.

Oh, I didn't expect this many responses! is the project I've been working on. I'm torn about whether to continue it; I didn't have any modding skills when I joined it nor any understanding of the legal implications of using another's IP. I just joined because I loved the setting more than anything.

Here's a relatively recent shot from in game with post editing in photoshop:

I'm planning to develop a game eventually, that's part of the reason I'm learning how to use the CryEngine 3. My experience modding has taught me a lot of things, in particular the need to plan (GDD, etc) and how to deal with other developers. Simple is the best place to start like you said; I'm going to be doing some really small projects at first to familiarise myself with the new software.
