It was around that time we went online at work.By that I mean our records were computerised, and our work all done by 'on-line-enquiry' and 'on'line-update'. Our terminals were slaves, connected to a massive network (20 THOUSAND USERS) via a huge server in the office;bloody thing looked like univac. The one in the main office was much bigger.. The network was built by WANG. Of course it was DOS and broke down every other day. When visiting the US in 1985,I mentioned this fact to my cousin, who was VP of IBM,Seattle. He burst out laughing. It was a government contract, done by tender.
Sounds about like some old iron I worked on in the late 80's.
first pc in 1985 was dos... avoided them like the plague.
now windows 7, windows computers since 1997. Was introduced to mac os and linux/ubuntu a few years ago.. Loved Ubuntu, it is a great way to rescue an old windows computer IMO
Lion (mac 10.7) is like vista (not quite as bad =P) but still a huge step down from snow leopard.

I programmed punch card driven 'mini computers' (the size of a whole desk; Burroughs L and B series) in 1975! When "PCs" weren't even a blink in the Steves' eyes yet. |
