I read this as "marijuana particle glimpsed". I need weed...

A fermion is a particle. What we have here is...
BBC article Wrote:"The system is still built out of atoms, with nuclei and electrons, but the electrons behave together in such a way that their collective state is a Majorana fermion."

Seems to me this is another case of botched science reporting by a non-scientist.

Wouldn't that be a bud?

I dunno. If there were a marijuana particle, it would explain a heck of a lot.

RE: Majorana particle glimpsed
They didn't discover the "majorana particle". That doesn't even make sense. That's like saying they "discovered the dirac fermion".

The group got indirect evidence of a quasi particle with majorana fermion properties. A lot of scientists in the solid state community have known about these and, I hate to break it to the reporter, but a number have gotten evidence of similar systems. This study just happens to be a particularly good one.
