Anti Creationism Argumentative Paper.
April 26, 2012 at 7:53 pm
So, I've a research paper due soon, and I chose the benefits of secularism and disadvantages of creationism in public schools, life, etc. I suppose what I am asking for is your thoughts on both subjects. @Min- you MUST reply to this for me!

Creationism is a case study in how -not- to do science, and the ID movement is one of the finest examples of special interest groups leveraging ignorance to perpetuate ignorance in furtherance of other goals...directly in the face of laws to the contrary.
You shouldn't have any trouble finding something to write about in the whole ridiculous mess.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

It's always better to know the truth. Creation stories are plentiful all over the world, and each one reflects a certain way of thinking by each particular culture, but there is only one truth. I think it's utterly shameful that after so much struggle as a species to survive, and after all that science has done to contribute to the survival of our species, there are still so many people out there whom dismiss beautiful, amazing, scientific facts for their myths.
These same people rely on science to live and be well. They take penicillin to cure their infections, and yet they never seem to credit the antibiotic, rather they credit the telepathic asking of their invisible sky father to cure them. I often wonder if they just lack the intelligence to understand that without these advances in science they'd likely die, regardless of faith, or if they just don't use their intelligence to think about it.
Secularism is the only thing that makes sense in a civilized society. That's not saying people shouldn't be allowed to believe foolish things and worship whatever they want, but it should be a private matter. With so many differing supernatural persuasions in one society, it only makes sense to keep that sort of thing to one's self.
As far as teaching things like biblical creation in the science classroom, well, that's just heinous. There is no science involved in creation myths. If they're going to talk about it at all, it should be done in literature class, and many different creation myths should be included. I think that at the root of it all lies extremely insecure people. If one part of the bible is proven to be false by sound science, then just how much of their precious beliefs are true? Deep down, they know this, but are desperate to keep it alive, and for varying reasons, but all of them based upon feelings akin to a 3 year old child whose blanket is being tugged away from them.
It's actually quite pathetic.

The thing about creation "science" is that any evidence that contradicts their silly fantasy will be dismissed.
The pre-eminent creation group is Answersingenesis, founded by Ken(the hamster)Ham.
http://www.answersingenesis.org/about/faith
Specifically this bit,
Quote:By definition, no apparent, perceived or claimed evidence in any field, including history and chronology, can be valid if it contradicts the scriptural record. Of primary importance is the fact that evidence is always subject to interpretation by fallible people who do not possess all information.
This is what passes for science in the cretinist worldview.
Sad really.

sort of says it all really. Silly superstitions are a personal matter and not one for policy.
