By illusion what do you mean?
Does the self change reality because of the self or does reality change the self because of whats real?
Reality is also an illusion. Hence it being vastly different from every perspective. Perception is key, because it allows us to have eyes where in other circumstances, we wouldn't. Doesn't mean that what we perceive to be true, is truth. Just means that in the present tense, we perceive it to be so.

I would think reality would be real without us, the only thing it does is shape us and thus proves how real it is. We can distort it and not believe in what it holds as true but it, it self, does not deceive us. I will agree the self is an illusion but not reality. I can say i am not my self, all my thoughts, are but who i think i am because i am, but it is not actually me but a simple spontaneous manifestation that can say its me.

But what of those who exist in alternate realities that are unlike our perception of ours? Mental realities that shape people into seeing things differently? Is reality not merely a manifestation of our own minds because it's different from theirs? Perception is individual, and intricate, and it shapes everyone into seeing how things operate differently. Especially how we as humans operate. Also, I think that the concept of reality changes with circumstance.

Then your right, there is no reality, just a different perception of understanding. Then it would be the self understanding reality and thus shaping itself subconsciously or inadvertently because of what it happens to see. I find all this fascinating. What do you mean by circumstance?

^ Agreed. I like you. ^_^ the perception of reality changes upon circumstance. You start to see other things as they weren't before under certain circumstances. Everything might not be bright outside, but when in love, I swear everything seems to shine. When bad feelings seep in, things usually seem dark. But, to everyone else they're exactly how they were. Unless they tap into your mood affected by whatever circumstance you're facing, their perception of the world will not be altered. Our subconscious alters reality for us, to fit us into whatever situation we're in. At least, that's what I think.

But it changes our reality with out our power and our circumstance is adjusted without out our cause. Were so powerless. I find from the very first memorable or instinctively proven impression we are shaped by the reality we perceive or circumstance we understand. From then on i find it hard to ever change from that self, and will continue to project a pattern of things you are a part of but have no control of. Subconsciously existing through a sense of consciousness, control is an illusion.

That was supposed to be an emoticon. Did it work?

It was a little bowing emoticon. And you're welcome! I've not many people to discuss it with either, even though I am a psychology major. Thanks, though.

Reality still exists whether or not there is a perceiver to be aware of it. But reality will not collapse to a defined state until something or someone is to observe it. Reality will be a "blur" until it is perceived. Also, like you were discussing our mind does "distort" what we perceive so that we may have a better understanding of what is around us. Freewill may be an illusion but we are at least free to act within what defines us.
