"I would not make it without God."

"I would not make it without God."
I follow some folks on twitter who happen to be religious, and occasionally one of them will tweet something like, "Whenever times are roughest, I know that God (or Jesus, or My Faith) is the only reason I can make it through."

And I just think that has to be among the saddest personal things I have ever heard a person admit to. So if it wasn't for your religion, when life got tough you would...what, kill yourself? Or just curl up and die? What a sad, weak little person you are. I mean, look...life is hard, for almost all of us. But give yourself a little credit. People are tough, and most make it through just about everything that the universe throws at them, because what choice do we have?

I don't know. I just wanted to vent about this, I guess. I'm not perfect, and I can get pretty down on myself sometimes, but I have never - not once - needed an imaginary friend to get me through the day without jumping out of a window. Am i looking at this the wrong way?

One of the reasons I fell out of Christianity so easily is because I never had the thought to rely on god. I did everything myself and never prayed for myself. Ever. I'm a much better person for it.

The Human mind when it need to be can be a very tough and resistant thing, there god is there inner-self pushing them on. I find it amazing that when humans when they really need to can do thing they would never normally do when it come to it.

The reason you hear that from people so much is because they like to say it and believe they were helped or saved. Does anybody really say "i just got through that because im smart or strong"(even if that is true and some people actually say that). Humility is good and culturaly acceptable.
People actually wont admit they can fix a problem because, in truth, their problem was menial to begin with or out of their control entirely.

Ironically, of course, they DO make it through without "jesus" because there is no fucking jesus.

It does make one wonder about the groveling nature of xtians, though. What a sniveling bunch of shits they are.

I have to quote Adam this time:

[Image: The-inspirational-conclusion-of-Adam-Sav...Rally.jpeg]
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

If I had been a Christian (expect perhaps a Roman Catholic) I would have killed myself long ago.

I believe the prospect of very likely being no afterlife probably has kept me alive through some really dark periods in my life (including right now).

Perhaps it as to do with the fact that if you admit that you were responsible for getting yourself through a crisis, it opens up the door to the idea that God was never protecting in the first place. It's somewhat analogous to a tightrope walker making it all the way across the tightrope only to realize there was no safety net below.

I agree with you but why claim a mythological celestial dictator helped you succeed in something?
Why not claim that the support of you family and friends helped succeed?

There is no humility whatsoever, only overweening condescension mixed with dilusional idiocy, to thank god for someone else's work, like when you give thanks to Jesus for the food delivered by fruit of the purposed and accummulated hardwork of generations of farmers, agronomers, biologists, essentially every EXCEPT your jesus.
