Ball pythons can live up to an average of 20 years if bred in captivity. I don't think of it in terms of dog years. But human years, yes.

We live out in the sticks, and being animal lovers, have collected some some stray cats. Unfortunately some had litters before they could be fixed.
One of the babies was white and was the first to venture out in the world and I decided on a name for the "great white hunter", Bwana. As it turned out, she was not a male, so we changed the name to Bwanee.
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.

Not sure if I shared these guys here or not. Don't think so. Not exactly a pet either but I got to watch these two hummers grow up over the last few weeks.
They're in the Euphorbia on the left side foreground, about a meter above the ground and a couple feet from the pond. To legitimize the inclusion of the hummers, there is my dog Heidi crossing just beyond the pond too. For good measure, here is a fairly recent portrait of Heidi, also taken near the pond.
I never get over how gorgeous Heidi is...
Here is my furkid, Tanner, aka Bananer, aka The Nanners. And my newest foster, Keller. He's a purebred Golden and he's such a sweetie. His story is one of the saddest things. His original owner was deaf, blind, and mute. For 6 years of his life, he heard no sounds, had no name, never left the house, and never really learned anything. Most dogs would go crazy. His original owner died a little more than a year ago, and the owner's stepbrother took him and put him in a kennel 24/7/365 for over a year. Let him out to pee/poop and fed him in the kennel. Shit makes me so angry. He is such a sweet dog. He's 7 years old, and just like a puppy. Everything's new! He has a penchant for finding socks to chew to shreds. He is in absolute paradise for an ear or a butt rub. He is learning his name (after Helen Keller) and some basic commands. Because he was outside for a year he got heartworms, so he's resting after his treatment which is really stressful on his system. What a sweet boy.

Yeah, that is so messed up. Too many people seem to regard dogs as toys that are there for their amusement.

I don't know why the deaf, blind, and mute man (it's not PC to say 'dumb' anymore, right?) had Keller to begin with. He wasn't a helper dog or anything like that. I think the guy thought "he's a Golden Retriever, he'll be my seeing eye dog," or something like that. We are piecing together bits of information. Apparently he would stomp on the ground to call him. Poor boy has had sensory deprivation. He's smart as hell, though. He figured out the doggy door in the first 20 mins.

Awwww... I want to give Keller a hug so bad!
I've heard stories about my dad's dog, You Be, before he was my dad's dog that make me want to cry. He's such a good dog that I hate hearing about the things he went through. His former owner, a homeless guy that lives on my dad's business property, would go on drug binges and would leave You Be tied up in their little makeshift shed/shelter all alone for days and lots of other, worse stuff than just neglect that I don't even want to recount. Now, though, You Be is 15 pounds overweight (rather than about 15 pounds under), sleeps on a memory foam dog bed and goes absolutely everywhere with my dad.
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.
