Why I'm not an Atheist and believe in what I believe.

Your argument is just based on your particular view of your particular religion. What if Thor is love and God is a dick? You justify your morality with a god, that I can understand, but my morality does not come from that god. in fact, I find the morals of that god abhorrent. We don't need to turn to superstition to answer questions of development. I recommend you look into social psychology.

I don't have a religion.

My mistake, your particular view of your particular religious philosophical movement.

I'll give more thought to my words next time, sorry about that.

It's ok.

Also, I'm arguing here by the nature of morality itself. I think it points to higher metaphysical basis to it. The same is true of greatness.

God is VALUE himself. Everything else is given value through relationship to him.

I'm not arguing this through circular reasoning. I'm saying the nature of value shows eternal basis. Greatness, morality, beauty, these things point to God.

I disagree. Seriously, look into psychology. Look into the two I referred you to. Morality is something we are taught. :3

Quote:Why should a person follow the golden rule?

It is probably usually to his advantage to do so as a starting point. However, once the other person harms or threatens you or yours, all bets are off. So far, I have been unable to discover a single, universal, absolute moral imperative.,

There is exceptions to most moral imperatives if you state them. But the spirit behind morality, which is metaphysical, is universal in all moral imperatives. And that spirit is divine.

Also morals with the spirit of just acting to what is our own advantage is not the morality we know of.

This is borderline an argument from ignorance here. Stop. What is the being or entity you're proposing exists? Define "god" please.

The question, is nonsensical. Confused

There you go again, making a truth statement for a metaphysical proposition. Not a claim I am able to believe unless supported by credible evidence, for which so far there is none..Tiger

In my opinion it is not. That means I demand proof. I understand that may not be possible; NOT MY PROBLEM. To be ABLE to believe, I NEED proof. Please do not think I am simply being bloody minded; my atheism is not a choice, merely the inevitable result of a skeptical world view.

And furthermore, are you actually suggesting your conscience is merely a product of your parents imagination, because their parents taught them, and their parents taught them, and somehow you've stepped out of the process of delusional morality? Is the only reason you hold on to certain morals is because you think society benefits from them?
Are we essentially evolved spacesuits stupidly assembled by no other reason than to reproduce more of the same stupidly assembled spacesuits that will eventually cease to exist? Clap
