Snake handling
http://news.yahoo.com/serpent-handling-w...ories.html

This pastor dies of a snake bite and his Father years earlier died of a snake bite Will these nutjobs get it now? I wonder what excuse Christians will have for his death? I saw a TV Doc on this a few years ago where a snake handler was bitten many times an almost died, his sister was killed form a snake bite while handling a snake. They just keep doing it. Yep. Snake-handling isn't exactly a mainstream practice.

Point of clarification: he was bitten by a venomous snake, as opposed to a poisonous one:

Quote:Poisons are substances that are toxic (cause harm) if swallowed or inhaled. Venoms are generally not toxic if swallowed, and must be injected under the skin (by snakes, spiders, etc.) into the tissues normally protected by skin in order to be toxic.

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Futher point of Clarity: If a man dies snake handling, then 11 times out of 10 he did so in the 'South.' If a snake bites you and you die in the South. Then you were bit by a Poisionous (pronounced Por-zen-ness) snake.Big Grin

If you're not supposed to ride faster than your guardian angel can fly then mine had better get a bloody SR-71.

Is snake worship in the bible, or is this just one of things they made up as they went along?

RE: Snake handling
It's all to do with signs of True Believers™ from (I believe) Mark 16, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

We can see how well that works out...

While I wouldn't necessarily condone such things, in the sense of "don't try this at home", it is the sort of thing that would qualify as a testable claim.
