yes, all the same tube.

taking the law into your own hands may not be right legally, but you absolutely CAN do it - evidence is in the story. i've done it and will continue to, if the 225 year old set of laws known as the constitution via the legal system doesn't perform as it should.

I didn't even think of that. Dammit, Jackman, stop being awesome. XD

A bit more calm, I admit that ALWAYS taking the law into your hands is not right. There IS a justice system. It works MOST of the time. But there ARE times when, yeah, it either fucks up, or it gets exploited and turned into a joke. A Law Abiding Citizen? Yeah, that shit, the motive and reason for what he did later? That actually fucking happens. Not a lot but sometimes it DOES happen. Or worse, our rights and liberties get abused by people. The Westboro Baptist Church is an example of that bullshit. Oh sure, the law can't touch them.

Doesn't mean I don't have an elaborate murder plan set up for killing Fred Phelps and his deluded family members and methods for how to get away with it. The vitriol and diatribe that piece of shit has spouted, the ways in which he has done it, and the pain he has brought about, and the life he leads after having done so, in fact BECAUSE of how he has lived his life [a comfortable one paid for via lawsuits against people who retaliated against him when he was at their funerals saying that the death of a son, daughter, husband, wife, mother, or father was god's work and that it was a great thing] more than warrants a death sentence. Ditto this piece of shit priest.

"AH-HA! Guilty!"

Really?

Jury nullification is PART of our system here.

You still miss the bigger picture.

Not even talking about priests, but single men in general, and not even with kids.

DO YOU KNOW how fucking easy in cases of "he said she said" if someone merely didn't like you, they could make a false accusation just to get even with you.

Now OUTSIDE the issue of crime, just between co-workers and communities with diversity, people tell lies all the time. Because people can be vindictive for no damned good reason. And do not tell me ever in your life you have not had someone you know, a "seemingly friend" or outright foe" not lie about you.

The point is to prevent a vigilante society LONG TERM. You focus on the nature of the charge and not the facts of the case, it becomes easy for you to merely "get even".

Otherwise why even have a legal system? Any time someone is accused of something horrible, lets just murder them because we don't like the charge.

That guy was entitled to his emotions, but he was not entitled to take the law into his own hands. If you want to live in a country based on emotional justice Afghanistan and Iran come to mind.

look, i've been in the legal system (not as a lawyer) plenty of times. i know what my experience is with the law and regardless how you feel about me doing my part to personally turn the us into afghanistan (drama much?), i will continue to uphold vigilante justice where i feel it has let me down. whether or not someone thinks it's wrong of me to do so, means absolutely nothing. it's a personal decision and completely emotional.

obliteration of the law is rampant, for instance when millionaires get away with murder, when "white collar" crime gets federal prison time (which is essentially a hotel). why not put them in general population with the rest of the inmates? crime is crime, scooter libby shouldn't have gotten pardoned, he should've gotten buttfucked just like anyone else who has to lay for 15+yrs. the law is there to be broken when needed, but respected ultimately.

not sure how much of that last part had anything to do with the thread, but i felt like saying it anyway.

I see your post and raise you a "fuck the law, I am the law!"

Where? I've never seen one. What I've seen are various kinds of legal systems,in which justice sometimes occurs by happy accident, but not through design. The law is about maintaining the status quo,it has nothing to with justice.

So that's your excuse? "Everyone else breaks the law to some degree, so I should too" How were you involved in the legal system ", not as a lawyer plenty of times"?

Just with speeding tickets I am sure cops get "I was only going as fast as everyone else". Sure, but they didn't stop anyone else, they stopped the guy saying that.

Just because other people do stupid shit doesn't mean you should do it too.

first, it's not an excuse. i don't owe you anything of the sort. second, i'm not doing anything because other people break the law too. it just goes to show the imbalance in the system - that same system that you assume will prosecute all crimes evenly. for your other question, i've been arrested plenty of times.

try to answer without feeling the need to draw analogies - you always manage to pick ones that mean little to the topic.

i don't do stupid shit, i deal with people at the level they need dealt with.

I agree depending on context. "Justice" for far too many means "REVENGE".. But I do not mind maintaining the status quo if it reduces crime while maintaining privacy rights and human rights. But that too will always be a balance.

I made no comment based on reductio ad populum; don't care what a lot of people think, it'd not relevant to me. My comment was on MY perception of the law as an institution. My apologies if the idea is too sophisticated for you.Tiger
