CERN confirms new particle.

Higgs boson merely represent a specific predicted behavior of the Higgs field. Detection of Higgs boson suggest this behavior is real, and therefore is good evidence Higgs field itself is real and not a pure math construct.

I didn't know this. : o

Incidentally, I got this from the FB wall of an old schoolfriend turned Church spokesman:

"Is the Higgs Bosun called the God particle because scientists really believe it exists and can see its work but can't prove it conclusively?"

prompting a "you are soooo very clever. How do you think these up? I'm well impressed" from an easily-pleased follower.

I replied thuswise:

"More like physicist Leon Lederman (who coined the name) was trolling."

I expect the replies to reach critical mass in very short order.

I hope you are going to screencap the shit out of said replies.

I prefer to call it the ungod particle, since it represent both something real, unlike god; and cumulative unstinting investigation and rigorous verification, unlike what underlies the fluffy belief in god.

Sure will. Soon as it lets me log in, I'll see if there's been any xtians with the courage of their priests' convictions. Right at the moment, the damn site doesn't want to open again.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I imagine that one of their creatard fuckheads...with a ph.d from some fundy diploma mill.... will soon be quoted everywhere as saying:

Funny, I'm having a similar discussion on Fuckbook about circumcision. I wasn't really bothered until some xtrian fucktard said the following:

Quote:For those of us in the religious community who feel this is an injunction from God, based on the Bible, this court decision tramples heavily on religious rights. One boy has complications and now the hundreds of thousands of circumcisions are in danger? It's government overreach and you can be sure disobeyed at all levels in the religious community, especially those who are orthodox.

I have basically spent the past hour trying to explain why I believe that human life takes precedent over dogmatic practices; seeing as we were born with self preservation hard-coded into our being. She's not buying it. I may have to kill her, which will strengthen the gene pull, and thus prove my point.

YOur religious fuckwittery is not in danger..... unless you consider it "dangerous" to allow people to make their own decision?

Could that be the basis of your problem?

Apparently the Higgs Boson was named the "Oh Fuck-Goddammit" particle. But apparently it was changed to protect the useless xtians from ...... being offended Tongue
