You are right in that sense, there is no definitive evidence. The fact still remains that there is a definitive possibility.

Exactly, just like Ghosts, alternate universes or anything else I will not support it till it can be proven with empirical evidence.
I will accept the possibility of alien life, but you are quite correct; I will not support it until it is proven.

It all comes down to probability, not just possibility. The probability of alien life is based on fact, the probability of me going to work tomorrow morning is based on fact, the probability of the existence of a God is based on fiction, as is the probability of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Atheism as a Religion
------------------- A man also or woman that hath a Macintosh, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with used and abandoned Windows 3.1 floppy disks: their blood shall be upon them. How could I possibly know something that by definition is outside the realm of knowledge? Atheism is a belief as much as theism, only it is a belief based on our observations, whilst theism is a belief based on faith alone.(August 26, 2008 at 8:49 pm)Tiberius Wrote: I will accept the possibility of alien life, but you are quite correct; I will not support it until it is proven.
Both Adrian and Brick-Top make a lot of sense to me. I like what Brick-Top said. ( empirical observation ) science is based on proof by observation, and by testing for confirmation. That has been my problem all along. ( seeing is believing ). Well, I've never seen a UFO, or an alien for that matter, but then again I wasn't there when the ressurection took place, or when Jesus turned the water into wine, or any other miracle at all.
As far as the possibility of other life forms, why not???? I'ts not just one galaxy, i'ts a HUGE universe. We would truly be ignorant to believe that only we exist, and nothing else could. I dont know if we have been visited or what kind of technology it would take, ( more than ours ), but I believe it very possible. Remember, it was the VIRGIN Mary that gave birth to GOD'S only son. I read a book a long time ago entitled ( Chariots of the Gods ) written by some guy named Eric Von Dannaker or something like that. It was about the earth being visited by superior alien life forms way back in the times of the pyramids, aztecs, incas, and such. The book asked an interesting question..... WAS GOD AN ASTRONAUGHT????? Could he have been?????/ (August 26, 2008 at 7:45 am)Brick-top Wrote: I've always wondered if there are Aliens in the universe but never actually said there is or isn't. Yes I do. There are so many planets out there that it would be impossible if no intellegent life would exist there
Even if the Universe is devoid of life (Except for the Earth of course) it won't be too long, cosmically speaking, before the Galaxy is brimming over with worlds full of complex biospheres and myriads of different races and civilisations all being able to trace their ancestry back to a single point, The Earth.
That is of course, if the Universe is devoid of other life, which is so unlikely as to be hardly worth considering..
When my son was 3-4 years old he would tell me he was an alien and said they were called New aliens. He was very convincing describing everything about them. Now he is 11 and can't remember.
