Global dimming and warming.

RE: Global dimming and warming.
The solution is so drastic that it will never happen. Well, at least not in our lifetimes. You can't just shut the entire world "off" and tell everyone to start farming their own crops, start foraging for food, and quit driving your vehicle back and forth to work because we shut your factory down. The human race has unlearned how to survive hand to mouth. People say things like, "nothing's been done for 20 years," but they don't offer up a solution. Until such time that a cheap abundant reusable energy source becomes available - what exactly do you* want people to do??? (*indiscriminate 'you')

I am all for putting an end to greenhouse gas emissions but without an energy to power our food combines, our slaughter houses, our semi-trucks and all the things that allow the world to eat - we can't just suddenly change our system. Imagine being told tomorrow that you are never again allowed to drive your car and that there will be no more food coming into the grocery store because fossil fuels are bad for the planet. It would be every man for himself and the world would become a blood bath overnight.

My whole point here is that getting rid of all man-made air pollutants would be awesome, but until we have a fuel source that doesn't corrupt our atmosphere there is very little we can do to stop the now inevitable. What we could be doing is at least stop researching weapons, smart phones and the plethora of other useless shit, and put every qualified scientist on the planet attempting to find that clean fuel we so desperately need. Lets face it, there's a slim to none chance that any of that will happen and all I can say to that is: I hope that the next batch of humans on this planet does a better job than we did. Undecided

Final thought: If you are so unfortunate to live in an area of the world where millions of people are starving to death and you yourself can barely survive - my heart truly goes out to you but I do have to say ... the least you could do is stop breeding!

Thankfully we don't have to (abandon our combines, our slaughter houses, our semi-trucks and all the things that allow the world to eat). They just need to be modifed. This runs counter to a vast amount of industry interests (by and large, those industries have very successfully managed to make their interests our interests), and so we find ourselves in a situation where unscrupulous individuals play both sides against the center. The NOP is not a suitable solution, but neither is factory farming. Cows aren't screwing us ten ways to sunday (despite their being in the limelight after a few fossil fuel industry funded "reports") but battery livestock isn't doing us any favors either.

I'm with you on this, in a way. I'm all for reducing our impact as far as possible, but I don't believe in the free-ride, where man exists seamlessly and perfectly in balance with nature (as if the perfect balance of nature were some goal we'd actually want to achieve in the first place). We could already do much better than we do, not by some innovative and here-to-fore unseen technology -we already have the tools-. That's what makes it so frustrating.

Yeah, so long as we do absolutely nothing, and the very worst occurs, we're fucked. Of course......that's business as usual on this rock.
(I'm on the other end of the spectrum, I have 5 kids and I look forward to their living longer, happier lives than myself. Lives filled with and radiating kindness. I hope to be able to start fixing some of the fixable things we have before us -in my lifetime-...and if I'm lucky, at least one of my kids might be interested as well..lol. Some may be ready to call it quits, just give up and wait for this place to annihilate us, I'm not.)

I remember someone made the comment to me once about:

"Why would I want to support something that creates diseases to try and kill me?"

I just kept facepalming until he went away.

1. That has nothing to do with the topic of this thread.
2. You're preaching and this is against the rules: https://atheistforums.org/rules.php

Do that one more time, and you'll be banned.

And he even has the power to make our planet alright?!?!
I had heard god works in mysterious ways, but I didn't know you had to forsake him first. >>>and what's that got to do with your dad???
So is your dad here for me or is your god here for me??? Cause I've NEVER heard your message before!
Allow him to help?? He won't just help me cause he wants to??? What kind of god needs me to allow him to do good things?????

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.
