COMPUTING: Firefox Vs Chrome

COMPUTING: Firefox Vs Chrome
OK,

So, despite the fact that I near instantly hated it last time I used it, I'm giving Chrome another go.

There are some things I like ...
  • It's fast (I don't know whether it empirically is fast but it feels like it is).
  • It has a great preview page
  • Drag 'n drop tabs are brilliant

On the downside ...
  • A year later and most of the other browsers have the snazzy drag 'n drop tabs of Chrome.
  • Yahoo mail seems to confuse it (I click on a mail item and I get the one below)
  • Some web pages (like Inbox mail) give strange errors in use
  • Lack of support (Firefox's array of add-on's are seriously impressive
  • In this forum it seems to enjoy inserting align codes, why I have no idea

So, so far, my overall impression is one of speed ... what I'd like to know is what other plusses and minuses it has (move fast whilst my mind is open, LOL)?

This was posted using Chrome BTW!

I use the open source build for most things in Linux now. Sacrificing my addons for pure speed and an awesome JavaScript engine was hard, but I think it's paid off.

I still use Firefox for some things though. Haven't seen any of the strange errors you report (especially in this forum) though.

I got seriously into Chrome then moved back to Firefox when Chrome royally screwed itself. I used the SRWare Iron build of Chrome for a while too for the ad blocking. It's just odd after an ad free FF experience. The rest of the add on's I can live without.

. I hate Facebook but the improved java engine meant I could at least go there when I had to.
. The threaded tabs just don't seem to work that well. One bad instance seems to screw everything.
. The screen real estate is nice.. all browsers should be so neat
. native searching from the address bar was a great idea

I use every standard browser for testing purposes. But when I am done, I fall back on Firefox every time.

I don't like Chome, though I could probably get used to it in a bind.
I hate Safari, it sucks donkey balls.
Opera is not bad, but it has some flash issues with me
IE, well, from 6 to 8, hate them all. Slow and annoying.

And that, although I am learning a few more positive things about it (Chrome), is exactly the way I feel. I absolutely agree about IE ... I use it when I have to but generally never bothered after v5.

I use dial-up. Getting Chrome would be like adding a glass-pack to an Edsel.

YUP.

I tried Chrome, (and have tried Opera and Safari) didn't find it noticeably faster than Firefox ( I have an Intel core duo processor and 3GB of RAM). Chrome also lacked the add ons I like. Be interesting to have another look at it in a year or two. (assuming Firefox does not keep its edge)

I'd give it a try. Unless you overly depends on Firefox plugins, you can make an easy switch. I've pretty much switched from Firefox to a dev build of Chrome on my Linux OS, and even though a load of features are missing, it is still an advantage to use over Firefox.

Here is a video of some of the features:

Pretty much Google saying how good Google Chrome is isn't it? I say that because I watched 10 vids of what appear to be the very same features only yesterday (albeit with a male voice over).

Anyway, I haven't given up on it yet ... it's feeling of speed still impresses me. Has anyone done any metrics on it?
