Chrome is at version 5, is Google a slut?

Dev channel just went to 5.0.317.2
Google is pumping out releases like a redneck motor camp.
Is it really that necessary? The number scheme seems to be a complete goof, it's realistically v2.2 or thereabouts, compared to Firefox's release schedule.
At this rate Chrome will be at v.8 by the end of the year.

Version numbers rarely mean anything, given that the versioning systems available are so many. Look at Ubuntu's (and other Linux distros) versioning system. They take the year of the release, and then the month, so the last one was 9.10 (October 2009). The "first" Ubuntu release was 4.10.
By the looks of it, they increment the primary release number by 1 every time they improve the browser in some drastic way:
1.0 - First stable release.
2.0 - Mouse wheel support, 35% faster JavaScript, Fullscreen, Page-zoom, Form autofill...plus others.
3.0 - Faster JavaScript, HTML 5 support, theming.
4.0 - Extensions, Acid 3 Test support, Dev Tools, etc.
5.0 - Official support for Linux / Mac.
So to be honest, they aren't that different from Mozilla's release cycle. The difference I guess is that Google can afford to pay for development far more than Mozilla can, and so they have a much faster release cycle. Devs have picked up the "Chrome buzz" after years of working with Firefox, and this explains the fast releases the Chromium project has also had. I suspect now with it working on multiple platforms, it'll pick up even more speed, especially with all the new extensions that can be made for it.

Is Google a slut? Nah, you've got it backwards. They make it so that we are the sluts, constantly opening our legs to shovel in the "upgrades."
I can't really talk though, after your last thread about web browsers I switched to Chrome. Been happy as a clam ever since!

I like Chrome, I just wish it was 100% there.
And what I mean by that is a few rare websites won't support Chrome, so if I really need to access them I use IE.

What websites are they? I'm interested. Are they filled with Java / Flash or something, because that's a plugin error, not a browser error. I haven't come across any sites that don't work.

So far the only issue I've found with Chrome is Youtube's comments system. I see that someone replied or commented in my YT page, then when I read the link and for instance go to the video in question it should be marked as read but it doesn't. So I keep seeing unread comments even though I've already read them. This doesn't occur in Firefox and IE.

I've had no problems on linux come to mention it. My wife used to with web banking... must check those.

I still can't get Chrome to connect to the internet, even with my Firewall off. I think it's because the proxy servers are enabled... and I don't know how to turn them off.  Oh well, Opera is sufficient and way better than Firefox and IE.

Click on the Spanner under the [ x ] Close button top right, ggo to 'Options' then the tab 'under the hood'. From there scroll down a little bit to the 'network' section and click 'change proxy settings'

...maybe that wasn't the problem?
I'm at where you told me to go, and I'm a bit lost. It seems the problem may be elsewhere. Bummer too, since it was working fine and dandy until one random day it wouldn't let me on the internet on Chrome. Such a fast browser too.
