I think your confusing the plot points of an HBO series with what is being discussed here.

You should bone up on your apocrypha, then.

I've been doing better lately - not bothering with these sort of posts, but sometimes I just get it under my skin and I have to let it fly.

But it was always a Catch 22. Pretending for a moment that the story isn't fictional ...

Even if Adam and Eve hadn't taken a bite of the forbidden fruit, and Cain hadn't killed his brother, eventually some hungry fuck would've come along and screwed it all up. Clearly, mankind was always MEANT to fall, and that therein lies the absurdity of the story.

god created Adam and Eve
god created the tree
god created the fruit
god created the "no-eaty" rule
...and in doing so, god created sin.

There was only one reason to create the tree and make an anti-fruit rule: god HAD to make man fall ... for what reason? Who the fuck knows. Sadism maybe?
No tree = no fruit. No fruit = no rule. No rule = no sin. No sin = no fall.
I mean honestly, how do people not see this? The story does not hold up and even if it did, god would only have himself to blame.

I mean christ! No wonder Lucifer bailed. He was probably thinking to himself, "wow, this god guy is one seriously delusional asshole and may even have a healthy bi-polar disorder."

I've noticed that this option doesn't seem to bother many theists. Apparently this isn't a problem when you're one of the elect.

It doesn't bother us because we are not the ones who will be toasted for it.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

You just live for the idea that all the people who give you shit will be burned for eternity, don't you?

Either your jesus is a real prick or you are nothing like him.

and that's really what this is all about isn't it.

It's not the love of god or the fellowship with JC, or the sweet warm embrace of daily prayers as you talk to your ceiling ... no no, it all boils down to one thing. Fear of death. Fear of hell. Fear.
We're being "toasted" and you're not, right?

You're lying to yourself if you think it's anything more than fear.
There is no hell, I'm not going, you're not going, it doesn't exist. By the way Santa isn't real either.

Eating of the tree of knoweledge seperated man from God. So God gave man over (completely) to his desision to be seperated from Him.

Holy Crap YES!!! One of you finally gets it!
IF Man Was not Meant to Fall then there would not have been a Tree of Knoweledge!!!!!!!!!!

YES!!!!!!

I have been Screaming the answer to this question since I singed on this board and answer this question for the first time!

CHOICE! The Tree was put in the Garden as a true repersentation of Choice. That Choice is simple Do we want to be with God and follow His expressed Will or do we wish to be outside His expressed will. Adam chose to be outside of the will of God and subsequently so do the rest of us. True Choice comes in when we chose to return to God's will when we accept Christ as THE attonement sacerfice for our sins! Meaning Christ literaly absolves all sin and all that is left is the choice one makes to return to God or remain seperated from Him.

Quote:No tree = no fruit. No fruit = no rule. No rule = no sin. No sin = no fall.

Thumb up

Which is the reason for the choice we have been given, for not everyone wants to spend an eternity with God.

And yet you still don't see it do you. You have no problem with this concept of the complete lack of free will - being called "free will."
There is no choice when your only other option ends in eternal torment. You just don't see it do you?

Ok everyone, listen up please read Genesis 1:27-28 and learn something please. It really gets tiring reading a bunch of arguments that have no merit because people refuse to do a little home work. God told Adam and Eve to reproduce, populate and subdue the earth. God did not ever intend for all people to live in Eden if the fall did not occur. This commandment was given on the 6th day.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Free Will as you know it as it orginated in a greek philosphy, is not a biblical concept. We do not have any choice outside of staying seperated from God or returning home to Him. this is your only choice. It is in this one choice that You have 'free will' to choose your eternal fate. The fact that you are a slave to sin proves you do not have free will as the greek philosphy describes it.

Okay, so why did he punish them for doing what he wanted them to do?
