I agree Robocop 1 was excellent. But Starship troopers simply went over itsown head, but under most of the audiences' feet. It's sort of like the director had a fleeting spark of real inspiration with Robocop, then it was gone. He tried gamely to recapture the inspiration, ending up only parodying himself.
The first time I watched it I felt exactly the same way. It's one of those movies that seems to get a lot of TV reruns, however, so I ended up watching it over quite a few times, and started really appreciating it.

Don't get me wrong, I think it was a good film, but it could have been way more epic.

Starship Troopers (the first only only) is one of my favourite movies. I've seen over 10 times.. A terrific satire on fascism , although I doubt that is what Heinlein intended.
I also like Paul Verhoeven's films. "Total Recall' is brilliant ,as is 'Black Book" ,a WW2 melodrama.

The Star Wars films in general (the scripts were poor in all the films), but particularly the prequels.
That last Indiana Jones film.

One of my biggest disappointments was the Spawn movie. They watered down a decidedly adult graphic novel for a broader audience and a PG-13 rating, but instead of appealing to more people, all they did was piss off the hardcore fans of the comic who would have helped the film garnish big revenue if it had stayed loyal to the source material.
The only well done aspect of the film was John Leguizamo as the clown/violator.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Alone in the Dark. I don't know if this was a comic/novel before the game, but the game practically wrote the movie. What did they do instead? Hired fucking Christian Slater to play Edward Carnby; that's what they did, and created a god awful interpretation of the game. The atmosphere was wrong, the demons were wrong, and the settings were wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong!

Indeed. As an adaptation of Heinlein's novel, I thought it was terrible. As sci-fi, I thought it was bad. As an action-filled bug-hunt with elements of political satire, it was decent.
I didn't bother seeing it again, or with any of the sequels.

It really makes me wonder how a more faithful adaptation would do. I suspect that there are a large number of fans who would pay to see it again and again on the big screen (as well as buy it on disc and buy merchandise).
With Hollywood's mindset, I can't see it happening though.

Harry Potter - all the movies
Those movies should have shown how full of dick that series of books is, but they didn't. They left out loads of stuff that illustrated how much literary vomit J. K. Rowling spewed onto the flesh of murdered trees. My daughter had read the entire series before she turned six, and now she doesn't read at all. She just sits in a corner rocking back and forth, asking "Why daddy? Why did you let me read those awful books? Literature is dead to me now. From this day forth I will only read the Daily Mail and watch Fox News."

Yeah. The Temple of Doom was much worse. As far as I am concerned, there are only two Indiana Jones films.

Not having read any Harry Potter at the time,I loved the first one,just as a movie.The others not so much.
Finally got around to listening to an audio book of 'The Deathly Hallows' read by Stephen Fry,and loved it.THEN saw the films. OK as a film and better than most film adaptions.
I seldom expect a Hollywood book adaptation to be even close to the book. From what I have gathered, a great many Harry Potter fans who had read all the books thought the films were just dandy.
