Not having read any Harry Potter at the time,I loved the first one, just as a movie. The others not so much.

Finally got around to listening to an audio book of 'The Deathly Hallows' read by Stephen Fry,and loved it.THEN saw the films. OK as a film and better than most film adaptions.

I seldom expect a Hollywood book adaptation to be even close to the book. From what I have gathered, a great many Harry Potter fans who had read all the books thought the films were just dandy.

Don't encourage them, Padraic. Shell B and I have a long running conflict over Harry Pooper. Just say you hate them, and let's move on.

Those movies should have shown how full of dick that series of books is, but they didn't. They left out loads of stuff that illustrated how much literary vomit J. K. Rowling spewed onto the flesh of murdered trees. My daughter had read the entire series before she turned six, and now she doesn't read at all. She just sits in a corner rocking back and forth, asking "Why daddy? Why did you let me read those awful books? Literature is dead to me now. From this day forth I will only read the Daily Mail and watch Fox News."

Damn straight! She's got to be the most over-rated author of the most over-rated book series in history!

She basically started off writing about some kid who went to a wizard school, not thinking about the ending, realised "shit this might actually be popular, better think of a way to end it", then proceeded to make the next however many years of his school life the most scatter-brain, pointless, unoriginal tripe ever written. The films wouldn't be half bad if the plot was actually anything but ill thought out bollocks.

I haven't seen it, but the movies have always been a little hit and miss for me.

Oh, Gambit. Give it a rest. Just because you couldn't write a grocery list worth bothering to read doesn't mean you can bash on Rowling. It reminds me of the Anne Rice bashers who haven't got a clue just how hard it is to integrate that many characters and that much history and weave it through several series and have it all make sense. (Sorry. Had a rant about this the other day.) I bet the kid just read your diary and got depressed. Give her some prozac.

Harry Potter is unoriginal? Firstly, nothing is completely original anymore. That has long been accepted in literature. Secondly, I have never seen a series like it. It borrows a lot of themes, but it is certainly not close enough to anything else to even be cousins. Believe me, loads of people have tried to discredit it. No one has found anything worth mentioning. Also, Stephen King said they were brilliant. He bashed Stephenie Meyers publicly. I'll take his opinion.

Now that those of us who can't read have been sorted out, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. I understand that they had problems replacing Ledger, but they only got the best actors in Hollywood, with the exception of that cheesy Colon Farell or whatever his name is. They could have done it better.

The only original thing about harry potter is fighting evil in a sweater your grandmother knitted for you.

I love the smell of fatuous superlatives in the morning.

However, I was rather disappointed in the lack of graphic sex/tantric magic in the later books and films. I thought Harry and Hermoine at the very least...Thinking

Haha, I knew that comment would suck you in. You're so damn predictable - just like your pet series of "books". Yes, I am questioning their validity as books. They're books like Mitt Romney is a legitimate republican candidate - The votes are in, the sheep are on the bandwagon, and if you've lost all faith in anything magical, you might just believe that they're something worth investing time in. You would take his (Stephen King) opinion, you Stephen King whore. Some people will go to extreme lengths to ingratiate themselves with their favorite authors, I swear.

Resident Evil. Given that the game it was based on, or at least for me the first sequel, was a truly unnerving experience, what with all the unnatural fixed camera angles and the background soundscape, added to which the game was influenced heavily by George A Romero's classics - plus the trailers for the game were actually directed by the man himself - well, let's just say the film was vastly disappointing. Less survival horror, more shoot-em-up.

On the subject of Land of the Dead, I watched it for the very first time just a couple of weeks or so ago and mainly for one reason only since I'd heard it wasn't all that good. (Warning: spoilers ahead.)

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'
