If you wanna indulge in cannibalism then fine, I think you have to be somewhat fucking nuts but hey, that's just me.

My question remains! Why eat people? Why? What's the gain? What is the purpose? Is it desire? A requirement? What is it?

It is a wasted food source. Because of the embalming, even nature cannot utilize this food source. As the population grows and the encroachment on farm lands continue, it would be a logical step toward the future.
As long as the 'soylent green' is separated and labeled properly, each individual could make their own choice.

So in short....it's a requirement?
That's all I needed, a reason. I'll pass when it comes to cannibalism.
I don't think it's a requirement, not at this point in time. Perhaps when we near the maximum population limit that the earth can sustain maybe...

So, we should take it as you going on record that you'd have no objection if cannibalism was legalized?

There are many more where that came from. Look up cannibalism (zoology) if you are interested in cannibalism in nature.

On the contrary, I'm just saying that you picked a bad example when you tried to argue that "cannibalism occurs in nature only in cases of necessity". I've never subscribed to the natural law argument. But if you are going to use it, use in correctly.
This conversation reminds me of a common debate tactic on the subject of homosexuality.
A: Homosexuality is against nature. You don't find two male animals engaging in sex acts.
B: Actually, we do. Homosexuality has been recorded in a lot of species.
A: Well, just because animals do it doesn't mean we have to do it too.
Here, the last point is a non sequitur. The natural law argument was brought up by A. But when it turned out that the actual argument supported the opposite position, he took up a position opposite to the argument that he was just advocating. That's intellectual dishonesty.

My answers remain! Desire. Fad. Taste of human flesh. Suppositions of great powers to be gained. Cultural baggage. Efficient mode of disposal. Desire to make a loved one a part of you - literally.

I grew up in the catholic church. I drank blood and ate flesh every Sunday for years. It tasted a fucking lot like stale tortillas and port wine to me.

You're assuming the modernity of society is somehow able to make a behaviour good or bad? modernity is far from both civilised and morally correct.

Why at all?
Because:
-its sustainable
-its similar to regular carnivorism
-hurts nobody
-doesn't imply murder etc.
