Bah, Jar Jar Binks is hardly different than 3CPO or R2D2. Just another comic relief character.

I like the New Star trek, it was better then the old ones and was more realistic (I don't care how many trekkies I offend, grow up) but I will always prefer Star Wars over Star Trek.
Meh. I think the first three were going to suck balls no matter what. George Lucas is a greedy moron.
The new star trek? Really? You're into the whole concept of time travel completely destroying the premise of every single star trek film and episode that came before and replacing them with films where fetuses take charge of the enterprise?
Just seems like a lazy way to reboot the whole franchise and rake in some more cash to me.

The derp is strong with this one.
Apparently twenty-something angst and drama is "real" while a set of relatively mature actors who have only their interactions with each other to make the screen compelling isn't.

Takes brass to admit to liking Star Wars more and then tell others to grow up. [/quote]
First off I am not a Trekkie and I never watched the originals,
Secondly I said Grow to people who can't take me walking all over Star Trek, what are you Islamic?
Thirdly I did not really care for the twenty-something angst, I liked the modernization of the tech, ok needed more mature actors, but it was a modern film who do you expect. It will never be a classic. and The Script was ok. I am guessing you feel about this film the same way I felt about Bayformers (the Transformers Trilogy)

The only thing that should have been done was to have him take no part in their production. Lucas it destroying is best work and the prequel could have been something but they fucked it, they felt rushed and incomplete and please somebody fire Haydon.

No, just no. 3CPO and R2D2 are legends and are a funny and work well as a duo. Where as on the other hand Jar Jar Blinks is annoying, unfunny and somebody you would want to punch. He is a crappy waste of screen time and money which could have been used to improve the prequels, at least by a little bit.
I am sure Star Trek has a unnecessary annoying character that everybody hates.

I give you the Jar Jar Blinks of Star Trek

It takes a sexless jar jar addict to lump George Lucas's CGI with a real human female.

Then you're in luck. I know I've mentioned this before but it's well worth bringing up again. I give you Star Wars: Revisited. A bloke known only as Adywan has taken the original Star Wars and re-edited it to correct the colour issues with the commercial releases, undo most of the worst excesses of the Special Editions, fix continuity errors, tighten some scenes especially the Death Star battle - generally give the film a wash and brush up. A full list can be seen here (plus he uses the Third Doctor and Sarah as his avatar - he can do no wrong in my eyes). He plans on doing all six films and for the prequels has promised less Jar Jar, C-3PO not even apearing until Revenge let alone being built by embryo Vader, and much more.

The only thing that spoiled the prequels is that Lucas got old. I don't mean that old people can't make good films but the original SW was born in the fire and angst of a young filmmaker trying to break into the mainstream.

It should be pointed out that Artoo and Threepio were, at least initially, more than simply comic relief. They were intended to echo the two peasant characters of Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress which provided much of the model for Star Wars. The idea was to show all the huge drama of war and battles etc from the viewpoint of the lowliest characters in the story.

Actually, something's been bugging me about the two films disembowelled in this thread; after a little digging I now know what it is:
Abrams'-Trek Star Wars!

Well, that's not too surprising since Abrams has openly and gleeful talked about bringing Star Wars style action into Star Trek, which in of itself I don't mind. Star Trek has always had action, but it was action that was never really presented as thrilling or as big as in Star Wars.
It's a bit much to say that the Star Trek film was directly copied from Star Wars though because most of those similarities you'd find in many movies, and stories (including ancient stories).

You speak of the Hero's Journey. The original Star Wars trilogy worked to that format, in fact the films made it quite famous. Abrams is on record as not particularly being a fan of Star Trek and preferring Star Wars instead. I'm not saying that Abrams directly copied from Lucas' opus, just that Abrams'-Trek is the Islam to Star Wars' xtianity; the same basic story in a new suit.
