Wait, children go from 1 years old directly to five and then back to three? What?

Read that as "one and a half" to 3 years. Or if you wish, from 18 to 36 months in average.

Both, I did not know that I needed to make a distinction.

And this is why you are a Christian. Do. Not. Question. The. Authority.

God is little different than Eric Cartman. "Respect my AUTHORITAH!"

It doesn't work that way. I can post anywhere, whether I, you, or fucking Willy Wonka likes it. I was simply pointing out that this thread is just your personal rant. It's a facebook status update or a tweet.

Oh, dear. I can already see this is going to be a waste of time.

I agree that the OP did not address much of anything. That doesn't make, "But, but, but atheists do it too!" any less of a shot in the dark.

Quote:Punishment is just a secular way of establishing justice. Religious people will resort to such tactics, but the result is the same as if an atheist did so.

Really, so hell is secular?

I was not aware religious people had any actual power to send people to Hell.

I did not say Atheists do it too, just pointing out a contradiction in his premise.

His premise was not "Christians beat their kids and no one else does," so no, you were not pointing out a contradiction. You were saying, atheists do it too, as if it refuted the point. I can't recall the name of the logical fallacy, but there is a name for it. I think it's, "I know you are, but what am I?" Tongue

Where the fuck did we say that the punishment had to be eked out. You said punishment is a secular thing, ignoring the supposed punishments in the Bible. You presumably believe in hell and that god can send people there. So, you tell me whether that is secular or not.

"If You whip children with Sticks you are a child abuser and deserve to be in jail. Sick Christian fucks and their obsessions with 'sparing the rod'."

Implying that Christians beat their children and also implying weakly that it is a Christian thing to do so.

There is no logical fallacy in stating that there is an exception to a stereotype. If I say only Mexicans steal and someone contradicts that by, them doing so is not a logical fallacy. Nice try though.

The whole thread is about punishment in this world, not about spiritual punishment.

Three pages into this conversation and nobody has gone 'nuclear' with the Deuteronomy passage about stoning the little bastards to death. Fuck the rod, let's talk about stoning 'stubborn' kids to death.

C'mon god-botherers, come with your stone=nerf ball, death=timeout apology bullshit.

Was that concerning some punks who were bullying one of the prophets?

No, I made the choice long after I left home.

You are speaking of grown children, please study the scriptures and the history of the times before you make idiotic statements.

I was quite the handful too, and my parent never laid a hand upon me. All I needed was the phrase "What would Dad/Mom say about this?" in order to constantly think things through before I did anything. For granted, as any other child does, I did my share of mischief, but I was always respectful towards my parents and felt the appropriate amount of shame when they were disappointed in me. The only 'rebellion' I did was to study to become a nurse against their recommendation. Yet, I got good grades in school, ate my veggies, came home at appropriate hours etc. without corporal punishment.
My sister has three energetic boys aged three and four and they all respond really well to verbal chastising when needed and are seldom disrespectful, because she and her husband have taken the time to explain to them 'why' instead of losing their tempers and hit the boys.
If you were beaten as a child, I'm not surprised why you are the way you are today..

You have no idea who I am, and I was not beaten as a child I was spanked, there's a big difference yet it seems to mystify you. My parents never spanked me out of anger, nor was spanking their first choice, they did sit me down and explain their disappointment with my actions. When I disregarded their verbal reprimand I was spanked, so take your stupid ideas of what my family was like and give them a serious rework. I'm glad your parents had a little angel to raise, mine had a little devil yet with their great understanding and appropriate discipline I turned out well.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
