Sorry, Tino, but if a fully-abled man can't stop a cripple in a wheelchair without shooting him then he shouldn't be a fucking cop in the first place.

To be fair if someone is trying to stab you its not like you have time to check what they're trying to stab you with. It doesn't require all limbs to brutally gut someone.

I'm with Minimalist on this one. If you're a cop, part of your job is going to be making the right choice in situations like this and to make those choices quickly. He didn't do that and a guy died from it. If I'm a crane operator or doctor or a firefighter and I kill someone because I made the wrong choice, you can bet I'll be held accountable.

No, the guy died because he tried to stab a cop.
Now if this guy had both arms and both legs this conversation wouldn't even be happening.
Someone in a wheel chair is just as capable of shanking someone if they have their victim cornered. The officer was fresh from a scene where such a shanking had taken place. Even if you ignore the fact theres no way the officer could of confirmed what was in his hand you cannot ignore the fact that the person in question had the capability and the intent to murder the officer in cold blood.
If you don't think a disabled person is capable of such physical exertion with such a handicap then go on youtube and type in "paralympics".

Really? What if it's this cripple in a wheelchair?

I understand you love cops but this is fucking bullshit. The guy was a double amputee! Why did the fucking cop even have his gun out?

What mental hospitals do you speak of?

Quote:In many cases the deinstitutionalisation of the mentally ill in the Western world from the 1960s onward has translated into policies of "community release". Individuals who previously would have been in mental institutions are no longer continuously supervised by health care workers. Some experts, such as E. Fuller Torrey, have considered deinstitutionalisation to be a failure,[4] while some consider many aspects of institutionalization to have been worse.

I don't actually think its the cops fault if he was cornered. If the guy was waving it around then it could of been a pen knife or anything.
I think the fault belongs solely to the people who thought it a good idea to let out such a physically and mentally vulnerable person prone to violent threats.
No, sorry. I don't think its the cops fault on this occasion. It only takes one arm to shank some internal organs.

Not that I necessarily disagree, but how does a double-amputee in a wheelchair outmaneuver and corner a cop who has two arms and two legs? If he had one arm he couldn't move the chair and swing around the pen at the same time, could he? It just seems kind of unusual...

Again I say....these fucking cops are out of control.

what "cops"? do you mean the high school dropout with 1 months worth of training? Who do you think takes a police officer job in the worst part of the inner city for $25K per year? Sure as fuck ain't batman

"Police spokeswoman Jodi Silva said the man cornered the officer in his wheelchair and was making threats while trying to stab the officer with the pen. At the time, the officer did not know what the metal object was that the man was waving, Silva said.
She said the man came "within inches to a foot" of the officer and did not follow instructions to calm down and remain still."

"The caretaker who called police waited on the porch while the officers went inside, she said.
"It was close quarters in the area of the house," Silva said. "The officer was forced into an area where he had no way to get out." "

He was cornered with a lunatic desperately trying to stab him with a metal object, what would you do?

I was just curious as to how he cornered him, being able to only maneuver with one arm, and all. See bolded.
