Separation of church and state you say?

RE: Separation of church and state you say?
These laws would be easily overturned if challenged, what we should really be concerned about is the fact that public perception of Atheists is so misguided that they are virtually unelectable everywhere else as well just for saying the word Atheist.

That'll change in a hundred years or so.

The US is behind the rest of the civilised world in that department.

Well at least we don't have a state religion that we fund with public money like some European countries.

My state religion doesn't impact my life day to day. I can easily choose to ignore it if I wish.

America may be a 'secular' country, but the reality is far from that.

As far as funding anything goes, I could think of a hundred things which I think are a waste of money but there's fuck all I can do about it.

What reality are you talking about that makes America not a secular country? A few archaic laws that hillbilly states have forgotten to take off the books? Abortion protests that don't go anywhere? 20% church attendance? America has some of the strongest separation of church and state laws in the world. Greece has Blasphemy laws still. Sweden regulates what preachers can and can't say. For separation of Church and State, I'd take America over almost any other country.

I thought it was kinda obvious I wasn't referring to laws (kinda the whole point of my previous post).

What I'm saying is, even though I live in a supposedly religious country, it's not when it comes to my actual day to day life, and I don't hear about it every day like I'm guessing you guys do.

America on the other hand, a 'secular country', has a proportion of how many christians to non-religious? Can you run that by me again?

I don't deal with religion or hear about it in my day to day life, and I live in Utah, the most religious state. I feel like most Europeans have a skewed view of America until they come here. The only American stereotypes that are really true are that Americans are fat and drive enormous cars. The rest is just bullshit.

Just out of curiosity, exactly what do you mean by this? Never heard of anything like this.

I guess we do, seems like religion influences your country a hell of a lot more than over here though.

Sween has rather strict 'hate speech' laws that led to a pastor being arrested for preaching against homosexuality. Eventually he was acquitted, but the laws themselves have never been repealed and in theory could be used for the same thing. I think 'hate speech' laws are some of the worst things imaginable next to anti-blasphemy laws.
