Yeah, I've been sort of nervous to continue that show beyond the first few episodes myself. Does it continue to be as... um, bouncy?

Watched the first episode of HSotD. Was trash so I dropped it.

It's...not BAD, exactly. The animation is good, and the dialogue is...well, to be honest, it's probably one of the better dubs I've ever heard.

But yes. It remains very bouncy and very very very fanservicey. There's an entire episode devoted to nothing but fanservice, and I thought that since they got it out of their system they would get onto the more serious aspects. And they do. Kind of. Except they keep up the fanservice to an extremely distracting degree. I start getting into the story and the character interaction and suddenly BAM FANSERVICE RIGHT TO THE FACE POW RIGHT IN THE KISSER.

I should add that I like fanservice...when it's in small quantities. When it's not gratuitous or unexplained. But when an anime is 80% fanservice...well, if I wanted to watch porn I'll go on rule34. Or gelbooru. Or xvideos. Or redtube. Something along those lines. I'm not gonna waste my time on a half-baked plot just for some jiggling tits and pervy panty shots.

Shit, can I please can get an anime where the fanservice is tasteful and/or relevant to the plot, and not just bouncing titties randomly, upskirt shots, or random bathing scenes? PLEASE?? Like...I dunno, a romance-y scene or something.

Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, (Dusk Maiden of Amnesia) sir. There's a very small amount and it's tasteful. Is also a romance.

I watched that first episode of HSotD like 5 months ago, by the way. My friend kept telling me it was an alright series. The first episode didn't leave a good impression on me. Definitely didn't leave me wanting more.

Yamada's First Time. There's a lot of fan service in it- a lot- but in this case it really does fit in with the plot: it's a bouncy comedy series that actually does have some pretty genuine themes in it.

'Course, it's all just down to taste, in the end.

Judging by the anime you've listed, I can see why you may not like it all that much. You've barely scratched the surface of anime (again, judging by what you listen only.) Another thing is, if you're not willing to watch original audio with subs, you're not gonna' get far with anime. I know how it is; when you're not accustomed to reading subs, they're your biggest fear. I used to be the same way; I refused to watch anything in original audio. Now, I will always choose original audio over an English dub. The Japanese language is fucking awesome.

There are some notable exceptions, such as Hetalia and Baccano!

A great deal is lost in the accents in a few anime, it even affects Black Butler so a small extent.

But I'd agree... in almost every anime: original audio stands head, shoulders, and chest above english dubbed.

Are all Finnish dubs that bad? (I assume yes from what you said)
English dubs are usually okay (at least in my experience, maybe I've just been lucky), but I've heard Samurai X was so awful they scrapped it and redubbed it as Rurouni Kenshin.

Kenshin is far from the worst dubbed offender, it's 'pretty good' most of the way through... but it lacks energy and feels somewhat devoid of emotion.

I mean... it could be Tiger and Bunny... >_<

You should know that the ending of the anime doesn't follow the manga. I personally thought the ending to the anime was trash but other than that, it was a pretty good anime.

I'd agree 100% here... of course, I also think you should read the manga, but maybe that's just me

I've also been watching Baccano... I'd recommend that to anyone. I have only watched about half of it so far and i am still rather confused, but it is good.

There are a lot of animes which fall under this... I don't generally consider High School of the Dead to be one of them It takes itself a lot less seriously than its subject matter might suggest, but isn't it standard shonen? 0.o It's been several years since I last had anything to do with it...
