'Rate the above person's music'

RE: 'Rate the above person's music'
7.5/10
The music overall wasn't particularly exceptional, but the 'world's greatest drummer' was a standout.

I find it hard to make an emotional connection to this music, yes while its on it works, but it leaves me with no after taste, either good or bad.

Tino what do you call someone who hangs around with musicians?
A drummer.

So back to Hawkwind get the drugs turn it up and try this live performance

I have come to the conclusion that jonb has one of the best tastes of music. 9 out of 10

something russian, a waltz but a bit melancholic, if you have seen eyes wide shut you might know it:

There is some thing about the Russian psyche that I find so appealing, the veneer of joy over a deep sadness, and a genus like that does it so well. So from melancholy, lets move to the dark side and as we have seen some lets play with some drummers

Ps your wrong I am a fanatic for Wagner.

So sincere and purely percussively. I'm going to go with 8 bells and 10 drumsticks (a very high rating indeed).

How about something in the opposite direction? Focus on the voice. Jolie Holland is a big favorite but I can't find video of her performing my favorites by her. So I settled for a montage thingy with a song that shows off the character of her voice. Maybe the sincerity is the connection that brings this to mind since it so yin to the drums yang.

7/10 - a female's voice is all that matters in music.

6/10 but with an explanation. Gilgamesh, I think you are featuring music written for very specific applications, like game or movie soundtracks. The wiki on this E.S. Posthumus group says they are an independent music group that produces film trailer style music. I think that's exactly my reaction to this track - it's suddenly and overly intense for music meant for just listening. It's written to accompany a film trailer, which goes from zero to sixty as fast as possible to raise interest in a film. So my point is that it's well done, and would deserve more than 6/10 when evaluated for its purpose, but scores lower (for me) when considered in the typical context of just listening to music.

OK, back to the recent theme of female singers, I present Karrin Allyson, who begins this song in French, which proves I have good taste.

7/10. I think that Autumn Leaves is a fantastic song, but I hadn't heard that version. Nice one.

I didn't know where to go next, the French have no taste or with the cool theme of Tino's one above. I want to note here I think in the music being put forward there is an interesting dichotomy between music which is about the performer, and that which has an affect. I wonder if growing up with the internet were everything is at your fingertips gives you a very broad range of tastes, but also has the effect that you look at how the music effects you, without building up a relationship with the performer. So you would tend to select music which would seem cold to a person who is used to music changing with the times and seeing each new performer as pushing the agenda.

Ps Gilgamesh You would have to be mad to bother to review Kevin Bloody Wilson, so no worries.
PPs Sorry frankiej I posted just after you, Blues the thundermental for all the rock traditions come from it an go back to it, Enjoyed that, he got the cranking just righ for my taste, but with blues i'm a bit more primative in my personal taste, but that rock/blues cusp is played just right there.

I went with cool

Regarding Hawkwind, I saw them live a number of years back. This was that night. (They were excellent.)

Getting Banned from Pubs Wrote:I'm guessing that getting tossed from a pub is some kind of rite of passage. My problem was somewhat different. My problem was more one of finding the door at the end of the night.

Though I did nearly get a couple friends banned from Minneapolis' famed First Ave. We were there to see the space metal band Hawkwind, but before they came on there was a warm-up act that called themselves "the flaming head trip". They totally sucked. So I was bored and already seriously wasted, so they had these big books of matches on all the tables to promote the venue. So I scooped up a handful and made matchbook blossoms out of them (splaying the individual matches in a starburst pattern). When I'd finished my preparations, I held them all together and flicked my bic. It produced this gorgeous 3-4' fireball which drew a round of applause from the entire crowd. However, it was over and done so quick that the bouncers didn't see who'd done it. But they knew it was at my table, so they came and intimidated two of my friends for it.
