Libertarians =/= Nazis

I flirted with libertarianism a few years ago, but too many of them struck me as quasi-anarchists.

I like some of the ideals, but I also think there's a place for federal government. I think a nation completely subject to the whims of a 'free market' would be a nightmare if ever actually put into practice. I prefer a balance between the two.

I am very satisfied with my current possition as a pragmatist. My social views might be left leaning, but when it comes to voting or political discurs I am usualy convinced by the better argument, rather than having a deadlocked set of values wich dominate every single way I see current afairs and makes rational observations and their conclusions impossible.

liberterianism? I`m open minded, but in german political history they turned out to mostly be spineless opportunists.

Just my observations

The “Conservatives” in other Western nations are pretty comfortable with things like an extensive welfare system and a universal health system. Their focus is generally on moral issues, so they are trying to fight back the tide of secularism which has swept across their nations.
For example; in Australia where I live many “Conservatives” are socially conservative, monarchist, and skeptical of global warming. However a lot of them are also economically protectionist (and support things like universal health care and a welfare system) such as talk back radio host Allan Jones is the most well-known “Conservative” activist in Australia.

Also the next federal government in Australia, while on social and moral issues will be quite conservative. Will very likely on economic issues will change little from the current Labor federal government, indeed they might be more protectionist than the current federal government.

However in the United States many of these “Conservatives” are also Classical Liberal when it comes to economic issues. I believe that has to do with the political culture which has been a part of the United States since the revolutionary war. That anti-government sentiment among many Americans is a reason why the United States never had a Socialist Party with significant national representation or developed an extensive welfare state like every-other western nation. While other Western nations have small numbers of people who are Classical Liberal economic views, however they are socially very progressive.

Therefore you get a sizable section of the US voting public being both Social and Moral Conservatives, along with being Economically Libertarian at the same time. Also it would why the sort of people who are Libertarians in America, would probably be Marxists of some stripe in other Western Countries. I personally flirted with Socialism in my teen and young adult years. I guess would have flirted with Libertarianism if I had grown up in the United States.

I think the Australian Liberal Party (the australian conservative party) is more split than your post would suggest Justtrico. Malcom Turnbull has called himself a libertarian, the vote between him and Tony Abbot (the current leader of that party) was insanely close, like 1 vote.

I think the Australian Liberal Party (the australian conservative party) is more split than your post would suggest Justtrico. Malcom Turnbull has called himself a libertarian, the vote between him and Tony Abbot (the current leader of that party) was insanely close, like 1 vote.

I forgot to add that the "Conservative"/"Progressive" line runs through the parties in Australia. Unlike say in America where the "Progressives" are in the Democratic party and the "Conservatives" are in the Republican party.

For instance; you get some Liberal Party supporters members who are quite "progressive" on a wide range of issues, while you get Labor party supporters who are similar "Conservative" on some issues. Although I do believe the "Conservatives" make up the majority of the Liberal and especially National party caucuses at both a state and federal level at the moment.

I still believe my observation that a lot of "Conservatives" (including our own home grown Christian Fundamentalists) aren't fans of Libertarian economics and a lot of fans of Libertarian economics in this country are "Progressive" on a lot of issues.

2. Why is there no Authoritarian party didn't you ever wonder that?

3. I'm gonna start a party called the party of Love....oh better yet the "Good Party" and all we'll do is good things and if you vote for anyone else.... then your voting for "the Bad party" and you don't beleive in Bad Things............. dooooooooooo yoooooou?
