I dunno about the second language thing - I've seen plenty of native speakers write with atrocious spelling.

For the record I was born here in the US. i do consider English to be my primary language though I can get by in Korean. Growing up I was identified with dsylexia, and 1/2 a dozen other learning disablities. Which put me in 'special classes' up until i graduated high school (on a fourth grade reading and comperhension level.) I did not learn to read (and understand what I read till much later with the use of comic books.) I have to 'picture' what it is I am reading and comperhend it that way. The schools at the time focoused only on the mechanics of reading, which meant nothing to me. I would focous on letters and pronounciation so much the content was lost.
My wife always thought I had (ass burgers.) , and I thought she was full of it till she made me watch the Temple Granden story. I am not socially handicapped, but I do see and process information in the sameway it was dipicted in that movie. (to the exclusion of everything else.) I work in a techinacally heavy industry and this gift has really helped me to accel well above and beyond any one else. From a min wage mechanic's helper, to Master tech, to Department head, to Branch manager, to Business owner,(at 26 years old) To Franchize owner, to New Product development, and National technician tranning, to a partner as a master distributor for all of North America for the product I started selling just 3&1/2 years ago. That said, the primary reason I do not spell check (anymore) is because we are told not to provoke our children/students to wrath. If I took your most deeply held beliefs and showed you the flaws in your understanding and left you no outs, then provoking you all to wrath would be exactly what I would be doing. (My first few weeks here is a testament to that.) So long as you can see you are still better than me in some way that is important to you, you can still feel like your comming out on top. Even if you are made to leave you religious arguement. (A good example could be found in post 59 and 60.) So why fabericate a flaw when I have one built in? The second reason was when I was spell checking and grammar checking I was spending as much time proofing what was written as I had spent writting it. Which cuts down on the amount of posts I could respond to. In the end I thought the only one being served here by my 'proofing' was my own pride. For the message I am bringing is still being understood for the most part even though many complain or rather have something to complain about.. First paragraph: that kind of shit is the reason I hate a lot of Christianity. It is a false humility, no matter what you cloak it in. Give it to me straight. Your argument stands on its own or falls - otherwise you demean the rest of us by pretending we need to feel superior in some way, and it makes YOU feel better because you're essentially talking down to us instead of demanding we act as your perceived equals. As a humanist, no offense, but fuck you and that principle. We deserve better, no matter how you were treated in the beginning. There are those of us who don't believe in outright dismissing Christians. I was going to let you off the hook for having poor spelling and grammar habits because some people simply suck at it (even though Word is pretty easy to use) and I would let you off for learning disabilities, but now my estimation of you has gone WAY down, and partially because of... the second paragraph: we would prefer grammatically correct posts and proper spelling to ensure proper communication. It's one less excuse from us, as we won't be able to say we don't understand you, and makes you look a hell of a lot more intelligent. What a crock. RE: Interview
First paragraph: that kind of shit is the reason I hate a lot of Christianity. It is a false humility, no matter what you cloak it in.
Seriously? this is an example of false humility how?
Give it to me straight.
You have it straight, bad grammar, mispelled words and all. I am not faking any of this. this is the best I can do without help from another source.
Your argument stands on its own or falls
Indeed it does, so judge the content of what was said, and don't look to try and determine the measure of humility you think I am putting into a post.
- otherwise you demean the rest of us by pretending we need to feel superior in some way,
It's Just an observation. If it does not apply to you personally, then do not apply it to you. Otherwise know it is next to impossiable for you to speak for everyone else (accuratly.) Just look at what the guy who posted after you put. You may not like what I have observed and posted, but it does not make it any less accurate. Why not let my "Arguement stand or fall on it own merrit," rather than try and dismiss the whole effort simply because you do not like what was said?
and it makes YOU feel better because you're essentially talking down to us
i told you that I was actually diagnoised with several learning disablities while in school. after being accused me of having them. So tell me again how is it I was talking down to you? I was the one being talked down to, and verified what was said.
instead of demanding we act as your perceived equals.
How can I if I am lacking? Do i bring you down to where I am? Or do I lie and say I have the same skill set as you do? Even when I was spell checking and pouring over my grammar I was still being called out by people like Shelby. How could I ever hope to equal the writting ablity of a published author? The only thing I have done that you all would never do is turn into my weakness and embrace it and use what this soceity preceives as a weakness as a tool to push further than i could in a conversation on conventional terms. (Where everyone postures to be way smarter than they really are.)
There are those of us who don't believe in outright dismissing Christians. I was going to let you off the hook for having poor spelling and grammar habits because some people simply suck at it (even though Word is pretty easy to use)
I spend 15 to 20 hours aweek researching and writting posts. I normally spend as much time correcting spelling and fussing over grammar. I have a full time job, and a family. How much more do you say is required of me? is 15 hours is not enough? Do you really need more or are you trying to take away from the other things I do? Let me rephrase. Does my misspelled words keep you from accepting Christ? Or are their other reasons you can not accept Jesus as you Lord and savior?
the second paragraph: we would prefer grammatically correct posts and proper spelling to ensure proper communication. It's one less excuse from us, as we won't be able to say we don't understand you, and makes you look a hell of a lot more intelligent.
This is indeed a big crock. Because the level of comperhension need to form the indepth rebuttals I Always seem to get, show without any doubt that those i speak with have no issue deriving meaning from my posts. Misspelled words and bad grammar included. It seems to me that you are actually upset because you thought you knew how the 'great Oz' worked and then I pulled back the curtain on you, and threw what you thought you knew into the garbage. In otherwords from my silence I allowed you and anyone like you to build a 'profile' of me based on the superfical BS you guys have used time and again as a trump card to end an arguement that you can not otherwise close. Which again not wanting to provoke anyone to wrath I allowed my honest and true short commings to be used as a sacerfical lamb anyone can turn to, to dismiss the body of my efforts. In my industry we have pressure relief valves. These valves open/fail at a given pressure so the whole system does not explode. Again before I installed these 'relief valves' into my posts members here and on other sites would "explode." On AF.com one such explosion got me bann for life. Here it members put me on ignore lists, and I got repermanded by the mods. Since the relief valve was installed and people have a legitmate flaw they can go to, to either dismiss or make themselves feel better about what was said in a given post, the worst that happens is some name calling, and damage to my personal pride. Which to me is a small price to pay to answer your questions. I have been nothing but honest and open here on this site. I have answer every question thrown at me and clarified any speculation or confusion when I see it. If you did not want to see the man behind the curtain then you should not have created a situation where clarity was needed.
I'm upset because I actually thought a little better of you and it was dashed when you refused to come off as intelligent as you are capable of seeming because it somehow, in your mind, makes us feel better to belittle your spelling. Please excuse me, but I find it insulting that you should think anyone on here needs to have such a ridiculous mode of insult in order to feel better about themselves - and please believe me when I say that it's merely a lazy way of picking at you because no atheist here, and it would seem at least one former religious person, doesn't buy your arguments. We've already said what we needed to against them, whether you think they've been rebutted or not, and this is bored banter at this point.
I don't believe in your Christ because I was fortunate enough to be born a Jew and found the concept ridiculous when I was 5. When I was 10, I realized there was no god, so I certainly wasn't going to believe in your messiah. Your misspelled words annoy the fuck out of me, and I gave you polite advice on how to fix it. If you don't feel like it's worth doing, then your estimation goes down in my eyes but it's no snot out of my nose. I only got irritated at you when you made the excuse that you do it to "save time" and to make us feel better. Most of us on here work in some intellectual capacity and you're not going to make us feel better or convince us of anything in the slightest by making yourself seem weaker. If the content of your argument is worth spending that much time on, it's worth spell-checking and working on grammar as well. If you think it's too much time, I'd rather point you to Ryft, who spent as much time answering the posts he felt worth answering, research included, and while he didn't have the disabilities that would make it harder he did spend almost an equally proportional amount of time on it because he felt it was worth it. If you plan to show that you're sincere in preaching to us, or at least putting forth your argument, it was my suggestion that you do this. If you don't feel it's worth the time balancing between your work and family, then don't. And trust me...it's not just the grammar and spelling that turns us off. Once we get past that, and we do, the content is itself judged as religious BS.
I think Drich keeps the errors in, so he has a ready-made excuse when people reject what he has to say. "You're don't agree with me, because of my bad grammar and spelling."
No, people don't agree with you, because you spout mostly nonsense.

So I voted yes. comes closest to my view on the matter. Granted that this is a public forum, as it should be, and there's no realistic way to prevent anyone from using any of this material in whatever way they like. However, past skirmishes cause me to be rather dubious as to the likelihood of my words being represented fairly. Once bitten and all that.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

No offense to Drich intended, but I gave up reading 90% of what he posts long ago due to the spelling and grammar errors. Writing with so many uncorrected spelling comes across as unintelligent, unlearned, and/or lazy, and frankly, it's painful to read. Lazy writing doesn't really deserve to be read, IMHO. If I thought that was the best he was capable of, I'd understand.
