Is it just me or is ol' Donald there looking kinda pathetic. I mean, he's generally pretty damn sad but when he puts his nose into the political world, it's like his IQ drops 30 or so points.
And anyway, the records he asked for, are any of those really sealed in the first place? I mean, for a passport or college transcripts to be sealed, wouldn't that defeat the purpose? Or is he asking for the application he put in to get his passport and/or to get into college? Dollars to donuts says he's looking for evidence that Obama used his father's being Kenyan to get preferential treatment by college; not sure what he's looking for with the whole passport thing, though. Anyway, I'm not sure exactly how Kenya does their citizenship, so I can't judge whether or not he's a citizen there. I know he's a citizen in the US and he was born here, so he qualifies to be president. If he has a dual citizenship, both Kenyan and American, I don't see that becoming a real issue since Romney could easily get dual citizenship with a simple visit to a Mexican consul. But to jump from that to another couple of interesting pieces of information, since George Romney, Mitt's father, was born in Mexico, he couldn't be president, could he? He still ran for office. I even notice how much things have changed in just a few years. Anyone here remember when Ahnold was the golden boy of the GOP? He won the recall election to become governor of California and the Republican party loved him for it. They loved it so much, the talking heads on Faux News were suggesting we change the constitution to allow people born outside the US to be president. If they thought that then, why are they getting so worked up over Obama's birth certificate?

Or does he just exist for public entertainment and he doesn`t eaven know that people just find him funny? There's probably a mix between the two. He looks just as silly to me on the inside as he does to you, but I can't say how many people agree with me. If I had to guess, I would say that most people take him semi-seriously. He is sort of a celebrity in a way, so when he is doing things relating to that, like on a tv show of his called 'the apprentice', for instance. I don't think people take him as seriously when he tries to do politics, but I don't know this for certain. You gotta love the 'States, tho. I see a meme image in my head, with the caption:
ELECTS FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT HATES HIM. Don't get me wrong, I love America and it's rambunctious history - and besides, exactly the same meme poster could be made for Oz: ELECTS FIRST FEMALE PRIME MINISTER CRUCIFIES HER lols as they say on these intertoobz. I think someone running for President owes it to fellow citizens to be transparent and share records such as tax returns, birth certificate, college transcripts and passport data. Since Obama has been unwilling to release the college and passport info, he leaves himself open to challenges and offers such as Trump's. There has always been a level of decorum and decency, even amongst critics of the POTUS... This has completely evaporated in the last 4 years. Why is Obama more suspect than any other person who has run for President? Why is he always suspected of being un-American? His policies are more moderate than other presidents. He is not the only president with foreign born parents. There is simply no excuse for this type of demand to be made by an asshat like Trump.
For the record, I don't think the right's hate of Obama is entirely about race. The entire GOP isn't racist, but the racists are almost always with the Republican party. However, there's a lot more to it. Truth is, Faux News loves black people..... as long as they're Republican. Look how much they loved Herman Cain even though the guy was clearly in way over his head. Heck, they even made Michael Steele a regular commentator. On the other hand, look what happened to Clinton, a white guy, when he was president. They're more than willing to hate a white guy, as long as he's a Democrat.
The demonization of the left by Republicans, I think it comes from a simpler place: the Republican party has gone off to an extreme; the democrats look more extreme to them because their position has moved so much. I mean, one simple issue to look at is abortion: In 96, the GOP was split over the issue, half of them wanting to keep it legal and the other half wanting it illegal. Now? Now the entire GOP was strictly against it. Birth control didn't even become an issue until less than a year ago, with them falling solidly against it for the first time in forever. Their tax policy is further to the right than even Reagan. Honestly, I've heard political commentators claiming that our politics seem more divided now than any time since the Civil War and it honestly wouldn't surprise me. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Texas or Utah tried to leave the union.

He was capable of using big words. Competent public speaker, assertive, could crack a joke, etc etc etc. This has actually occurred to me before now. Dredging through some of the infamous Bushisms reveals that while there were indeed a lot of head-slappingly stupid moments in his career - such as the time he fell off the famously untippable Segway scooter, because he failed to recognise a green smiley face meant 'on', or in 2007 when he got behind the wheel of a giant tractor and rode it around like a joyriding teenager, laughing as he sent reporters scattering for their lives - much of what he said and did seemed a little too crafted. It was almost like he was playing the audience. I'm not saying he wasn't an idiot; personally, I wouldn't trust him with anything larger than a pair of safety scissors and a box of glitter, let alone a country. And I'd want him supervised with the scissors. (October 25, 2012 at 12:44 am)Brunitski Wrote: You gotta love the 'States, tho. You can see data on it going back to 1975 here http://www.gallup.com/poll/1576/abortion.aspx I think you're mixing party strategy with party-member preferences. There are many pro-life Democrats and many pro-choice Republicans. However the Republican party ties itself to the pro-life position to court the religious-right voting bloc, simply as a political strategy. Likewise the Democrat party ties itself to many special-interest groups to court their voting blocs, simply as political strategy.
