Which leaves you an interesting quandary.

Here you are, armed to the teeth, walking down the street, when from the side someone says "Hey, buddy."

Do you whip out your gun and blow him away on the supposition that his next words would be "stick 'em up?"

Suppose his next words were "do you know the time?"

Is not knowing the time really a capital offense in your world?

Of course, you could leave your gun in its holster and turn and say "yes." In which case, if he is an armed robber and already has his gun out yours will not do you a hell of a lot of good. In fact, he'll probably steal that from you too along with your wallet.

Decisions. Decisions.

I think you'll find as much evidence for the existence of god as you will the evidence for people gunned down for asking the time.

You seem to ignore the concept of deterence. Have you ever heard of someone holding up an NRA convention? Care to guess why?

What about those in Chicago, gun free city, that are put on trial for shooting a home invader? People die everyday in Chicago because of a bullet, yet the law says nobody can have guns. How does this work?

I had my car searched once and the back was filled with camping gear. I had fishing rods, tents, firewood, the whole nine yards. I also had a machete. The dipshit cop (and don't take this to mean I don't like cops. I generally do.) actually asked me why I had it and then took it. Um, I have it to murder people. No, dumbass. Context. It is all about context.

Well, that's quite an inaccurate cartoon. Hmm. I'd have thought you would have noticed the problem there.

Do you know what the difference is between an armed civilian and an armed criminal? No, neither do I. You might have the right to bear arms round your way, but do the same thing anywhere near me and suddenly you're not wearing the white hat anymore. In fact, and I don't mean this as a blanket statement against your nation in its entirety, but I rather wish there was more than one ocean separating me from this stuff.

Yes indeed. That bloke could never have reached all the way to the top of that chart on his own, and there's no ladder in evidence.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Seeing as how this issue is so highly politcized...I have a fun question.

Which of the two rights wielded by American citizens should we consider more potentially harmful?

The right to bear arms.
The right to vote.

(pay special attention the the vote wielded by those gun nut types...)
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I see a lot of talk about rights going on, but precious little about responsibilities, without which rights mean sod all. Literally, in the context of this discussion.

Why do these things alway start to get interesting just when my brain decides it's way past my bedtime? There's gonna be at least another twenty pages by the time I get back online.

I wonder who, then, has ownership of my person and my safety? You?

No. I insist on those rights and will defend and enforce them.

Are you fucking kidding me? No blanket statement, but wish for there to be a body of water larger than the Pacific Ocean between us. How the fuck does that work? I suppose the Coral Sea isn't enough of a buffer. As if Americans never died in the Coral Sea, and for what?

Perhaps this is uniquely American, but if some jackass breaches the walls of my home uninvited he will soon find himself dead thanks to the business end of a gun that is under my control. If the fucker didn't want to be dead he should have used the knocker or doorbell instead of inviting himself in.
