How Do You Cope with Holiday Stress?
#21
RE: How Do You Cope with Holiday Stress?
A few years ago I was on holidays on Sumatra (Indonesia) and I suffered a severe case of holiday stress because of an Earthquake.

I was luckily to be outside when it happened, since nine people died in my hostel;

I slept for days outside, because of aftershocks, serving as dinner for muskito's. It was a holiday I'll never forget, I can assure you. The weird thing was, most locals were very happy they survived. Fucking madness;

I would just zone out on Xanax the entire time.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

My god, man! I'd be a sniveling ball of sobs, tears, and snot. Maybe not... I do tend to perform admirably in emergency situations, but as soon as the crisis has passed, I go into emotional hibernation and completely shut down for a bit.

I acted very cynical for a while, but at least kept my sanity. My family freaked out totally since they couldn't contact me for a day or so.Undecided

I moved out to DC in April of 2001, so 5 months later 9/11 happened... Yeah, my mom freaked out. All the cell towers were overloaded and even the land lines weren't working from too many calls. I got through eventually, but not being able to call was freaky, especially in such a modern area.

I think the book idea may be good festive. Something that REALLY gets you dragged into the story.
