Have you watched The Avengers? That was directed by Joss Whedon, and it's possibly the best Marvel film I've ever seen.

Yes, I have. Perhaps it was the best of the Marvel movies but I still didn't find it very interesting. All the Marvel movies have this cartoony and over-the-top feeling to them that makes it hard for me to get into.

Which the first Iron Man lacked, which is why it was so much better than expected.
