LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles police Chief Charlie Beck says the fugitive ex-police officer wanted in three murders has multiple weapons including an assault rifle.

Beck also says more than 40 protection details have been assigned to possible targets of fired officer Christopher Dorner.

Beck says the massive manhunt for Dorner may be the largest in the department's history.

Out here (Phoenix) late last year two of these heroes shot and killed a wheel chair bound man because he had a gun. I think we had a "suicide by cop" situation and they are all too willing to oblige....especially if it is a minority. I've got plenty of examples of republicunt politicians trying to put fucking guns everywhere. I'll stick with the Dems. They're safer.

Then why aren't you and other gun control supporters advocating for comprehensive gun control (at the point of manufacture and wholesale, restricting purchase by both civilians and state organs), rather than just selective gun control (at point of retail sale to civilians)? I have yet to hear one good argument from a selective gun control advocate to explain why not-- so go ahead and surprise me.

I own firearms, and have never shot anyone with them, nor do I anticipate doing so at any point in the future, yet people like you want to restrict my access to them while doing nothing to restrict access by the police forces and the military who are using them to kill and oppress a whole lot more people in a year than all the nutjob spree killers in American history combined. Nah, I'm all set with that bullshit. Come back to me with a comprehensive proposal and we'll talk. Hell if there were legislation that promised universal small arms reduction, I'd back it 100%, until then it's just saying the slave masters get certain weapons that the slaves don't.

Not by much, if at all. There's plenty of evidence that Obama has had a worse civil liberty violation record than Bush. They're both imperialist parties run by the capitalists, thus dangerous to anyone who isn't in the ruling class. The Dems are just saner and less bigoted against minorities in American society.

Spoken like a true liberal reformist/defeatist. So you can't disarm the slave masters but you can disarm the slaves, and you don't see a problem with that.

This is no different from the liberal reformist attitude that has pushed the responsibility for global warming onto individual consumers rather than on industry where it rightly belongs. Liberals are afraid to challenge the ruling class directly, which wouldn't be so bad in and of itself, except that failing to do that but still wanting to do something they instead use the coercive power of the state to place restrictions on the working class. I don't get to own a gun with hi-cap mags but some scumbag cop does and you've just criminalized one more thing in the country with the world's highest incarceration rate, but that's okay cause it won't be you in trouble, right?

I'm not trying to restrict your rights but you think it's completely acceptable to restrict mine in the name of the common good-- fuck that noise lay out all the facts and figures and even dead bodies in front of me you want, I'm not gonna agree to abandon my rights or the right of others to effective (armed) self-defense unless the weapons you are restricting are being restricted in a fair and comprehensive manner without regard to state status or social class or race or religion or anything else. But you can't offer that because you're more afraid of your fellow citizens than your government.

Thanks for asking German....Yeah, that's true. I had two major surgeries within four months and this last one had some complications. I can stay on the computer only for a short time before I start wearing down, which is frustrating....so it takes me a little while before I can get back on to make a few posts.

There is a sliver of truth there, I have seen it, but it is only a sliver. It is not an accurate portrayal of the group as a whole. Even looking introspectively, there is a sliver of racism, if somewhat unintentional, as here in South Carolina, the black to white population is about 70 white to 30 black, but the prison population ratio is exactly the opposite. The "ruffians" or "thugs" that I see while driving in my neighborhood are now predominately black, where in East Tenn, my previous residence, they were predominately white. We all have a mental image of "the bad man" that we wish to protect ourselves from. It's called "self preservation." The police will only "protect me" after I've been attacked, you know. If my neighborhood was safe, I wouldn't see these thug types roaming the street in neighborhoods they don't live in. Their existence is a reason to have self protection capabilities. I don't owe anybody a "first go at my daughters or a first hit at me" so I am sometimes armed. If I gut shoot a lily white mormon or any other race who has attacked my family, I'll not feel remorse any more than I would over the general decay of the world.

The thugs of this world do have a choice, so when I protect myself from them, I am only reacting to a choice that they made.

When I was 14 years old, I stopped a vicious rape in progress with a rifle. The attacker was a big guy that I knew to be a Golden Gloves boxing champion. With out the gun, I could not have stopped the pummeling and rape of the girl. I could not have held him until the cops arrived (A neighbor later came out with a handgun and helped me hold him.)

As for the Mexican war casualties thing.. I think you should have skipped that one, we didn't behave well during that war, and in no way was it honorable. I just kind of see it as counting the number of US troops that died during the "Trail of tears." Kind of tacky..
