Atheist Amazonian tribe.

RE: Atheist Amazonian tribe.
As Cap said, they could have believed in thousands of fucking gods, but they didn't believe in the right one, and so the letter sent home states "no concept of god" the assumption and unspoken portion of course "no concept of the only real god - the correct one". The vast majority of native tribes were described as being "godless". We know, of course, that this was not the case. More accurately they were "christ-less", and at least in this, they were far more advanced than their european conquerors..... Wink
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

"We like to drink. We like more than one woman. We don’t want Jesus. But we like you. You can stay with us. But we don’t want to hear any more about Jesus. OK?”

Reading the title I thought we were talking about well tone atheist women with bare breasts and bows and arrows.

Quote:According to Everett, the Pirahã have no concept of a supreme spirit or god[11] and they lost interest in Jesus when they discovered that Everett had never seen him. They require evidence based on personal experience for every claim made. [5] However, they do believe in spirits that can sometimes take on the shape of things in the environment. These spirits can be jaguars, trees, or other visible, tangible things including people.[12] Everett reported one incident where the Pirahã said that “Xigagaí, one of the beings that lives above the clouds, was standing on a beach yelling at us, telling us that he would kill us if we go into the jungle.” Everett and his daughter could see nothing and yet the Pirahã insisted that Xigagaí was still on the beach.[13]
Uh, they're not exactly atheists.

Uh, yeah they are. Atheists don't believe in god. While it is unusual, you can still be an atheist and believe in the supernatural, so long as the supurnatural isn't god. The first sentence of the quote you posted proved they are indeed atheists.

What's a spirit being that lives above the clouds and sometimes gives commands to humans?

Oh yeah, a god.

Depends on how you define 'god'. Zeus, for example, was not omnipotent, but he was still considered a god.
However, line one of the quote says: "According to Everett, the Pirahã have no concept of a supreme spirit or god". Fairly unambiguous and explicit, no?

Yes, it depends how you define god, and I think that a spirit being which lives above the clouds and sometimes gives commands to humans would fall within most atheists' definition of god. If there were an atheist-only area here and someone there said that there's a spirit being which lives above the clouds and sometimes tells her what to do, she's probably lose her access to the area, don'tcha think?

Yes, unambiguous and contradictory. Seems his own deconversion is biasing his take on episodes he described which speak for themselves.
