RE: Kittenshere Continue thread
I thought you might say that Big Grin

The supernova came from a second generation star that exploded and no doubt that star was born out of the debris left by numerous first generation stars and so on and so forth all the way back to the start of the current universe.

Now it's your turn to say, "So where did the universe come from?" to which the answer is we don't actually know for sure. But as I've already pointed out to you in a previous post, the universe at the very beginning existed as a singularity and as such didn't obey the 'intuitive' laws of physics that apply today and did not require a cause.

It may have just started because it could, not because it was started.

These are tricky concepts for the lay person to grasp but it doesn't mean they don't apply, after all, the universe does not have to conform to our expectations of it and as already stated, things happen for no reason whatsoever. This is fact.

everything has a cause for existing.. including stars.

No it doesn't!!!

I have already explained this to you. Now, if you just want to argue for the sake of it then fine. On the other hand, if there is something you know that the worlds cosmologists, Astra-physicists and particle physicists don't know then please share.

You may be the next Nobel prize winner.

To require a cause, time must exist (given that causes must happen before the event in time). The current theory is that time did not exist before the Big Bang, and that the Big Bang itself was the expansion of space time. With the advent of time, cause and effect could come into play, but not before.

Yeah other stars! So is this just another stupid first cause argument?

I love when Kyu posts the story of the begining of the universe.

All we have is theory. You don't know how the universe began, all we can do is speculate.

Quote:The current theory is that time did not exist before the Big Bang
Oh, well if it's current. I see time not existing, as the fourth dimension over and above space, as hard to swallow. Unless, as you said the theoretical "big bang" event was specifically the creation of time, and space-time. The question is, for how long did time not exist?

Either you believe in infinity as reality, or only as mathematical abstraction.

If infinity is real, than the world and universe is a seemingly infinite chain of causes and effects.
If infinity is not real, something had to create, without itself being created. The unmoved mover.
The big bang is a interesting theory.

Thanks,
-Pip

Did you change your name Evie? I certainly don't like the new one, makes you sound much less respectful.
