Actually, Chris, those qualifications count for very little on their own. "I'm more intelligent than you and I have a paper to prove it so what I say is true" cuts no ice and certainly not in the scientific arena. Even Stephen Hawking has to show his work. If he ever tried to play the argument from authority card, like you just did, he would be laughed out of the Royal Society.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
This needs its own fallacy - I dub thee "Argument from Misplaced Authority".
