Maybe he knew about it, but didn't want to undermine anyone's faith.

I think he could have given it quite the apocalyptic spin had he put it into context with the end of the world, which was to happen mere decades later. Fella just wasn't a big-picture sort, I guess.

You've massively shortchanged the apocalypse, it's happened far more often than just those two times.... Here's a list, in no way comprehensive, and of course ignorant to all the drunken rambling that have ever rolled off the backs of those who had to suffer though their utterance. My father in law dates the apocalypse every so often and they've omitted his predictions. Probably a conspiracy.

If we take ourselves out it will because of human tribalism. Or nature in climate change, or a meteor. But conspiracy crap is just that. CRAP.

The destructive reality of human behavior, and the destructive reality of our planet and the cosmos does not need any type of ignorant childish conspiracy or religion to explain.

"Life will end" YES, but clinging to superstition is a great way for humans to needlessly rush our species off a cliff rather than face reality to extend our finite ride.

That's a debatable point. It might be a major catastrophe we were actually smart enough to foresee and avoid. I know allot of people that worked very hard to make sure it wouldn't happen.
