To be honest, I have no idea why people cling to this notion of biblical inerrancy. The only justification I can think of, and which I've heard from believers who think this way, is that the book has to be perfect in every way because it was written (or inspired) by God and so must be inerrant, because anything less would mean that God is less than perfect, and we know that God must be perfect because the bible was written by God and thus has to be perfect and when does this Magic Roundabout ever stop I feel sick please please please let me off...

As you might imagine, I'm less than convinced.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I think one's mind can make anything they want "real" to them... So anything they are "experiencing" is themself. I fully accept "demonic" possession in this scenario, if you can understand that...

If by "demonic" you mean their own intellectual dissonance, then yes, I understand what you're saying.

I have met several people in person who had the "God talks to me" thing kicking. They can be reasoned with if you know how to deal with what they are going through.

There are several passages that extol protecting one's mind. Here's a link I just googled...

And why should I believe you hold the right interpretation?

That wasn't my interpretation, I had just googled it as I indicated above.... I don't know how many times I can tell you, but you are the one who is supposed to make up your own mind.

If you want to drive out "demons", you need to teach people that they're allowed to make up their own minds... You said it earlier... "intellectual dissonance"...

Why bother with the Bible? You honestly sound like an Atheist Christian to me. You might as well pick up a book on the folklore of all the Zelda games ever made and tailor it to reality. That's what you're doing with the Bible... you're butchering it to fit your perception of reality. Just save yourself a step and get rid of all the Biblical nonsense that you put on top of reality. You can start by simply acknowledging people are capable of holding two contradictory thoughts in their head without the need to call it a "demon".

People that believe in the Bible can only be convinced by the Bible... You need to find their beliefs and show them (in the Bible) how to trust themselves (their own morals)...
You gotta play by their rules to make any sense to them. Some are just gone though also... Undecided

What I was implicitly getting at is that if the Bible isn't more or less literal in meaning, then why do you bother with it? Why is it appropriate to say that someone is haunted by demons every time they contradict themselves? You might as well replace this

with this

and go on believing that people are haunted by Ganondorf instead of demons.

Let me ask this: why do I have to believe that the Bible is the correct allegory to describe the world and not the Legend of Zelda?

You're not understanding me... You don't have to do or believe anything. What you need to do is simply recognise is that some people do believe some things and those things are real to them because they believe. The question is why does a person believe? You keep asking me why you should believe, and I'll keep telling you to make up your own mind. If you like it, believe it, if not, don't. How it affects your behavior is all that matters.

Who here has at one time or currently believes in the "infallible" theory? Who here once believed in "hell" (or currently believes)?
