The failed war on drugs

Legalize and Tax.
Profit.
I dont see how the legalisation and taxation of heroin would be a good thing.
Nothing wrong with the occasional line of coke, just don't get addicted.
Kinda like junk food. ![]()
We need to face the fact that putting drug addicts in prison doesn't help the addicts, their families, or their communities. There also have to be some alternatives to 12-step addiction programs.
I know that addicts dont go to prison here, and if an addict comits a crime he is sent to a special sector of a prison with rehabitational programs. Our entire justice system is built on the concept of reintegrating convicts into sociaty.
I think the US is "special" here.
If by "special" you mean short-bus.
I think the war on drugs has gone very well. Maybe folks were unclear as to why and for whose benefit this war was being engaged in...and this has left those very same people with the notion that it failed when it was, in fact, brilliantly successful?

There's no war on drugs. There's a war on people who use drugs, if America having the most incarcerated inmate population of any country in the world is any indicator.
Prior to America's entry into Afghanistan heroine (poppy) manufacture and dealing was a death penalty offense, under Taliban rule. Now, since America and allied forces occupation of the country the heroine export has skyrocketed. War for drugs, yes. War on drugs, not so much. Legalize, tax, profit. |
