Castration misses the point.
Pedophiles and rapists should be executed in an expedited hearing that gives them no longer than one week of reprieve for appeal of their sentence. And their organs, if fit, donated on organ transplant list, including their bone marrow.
Castration simply takes away one weapon and affords the psychotic predisposition to rape or commit violent felonies to seek other means to exact their carnage.

Yet another permanent punishment for transient offenses. Just how wide of a pool of offenses are we entertaining here when it comes to execution? Why are we excluding things like shoplifting or assault?

Yeah, a week to figure out if they're guilty or not. It's not like it can take years to discover someone's innocence.

Then why don't you demonstrate its foolishness instead of just calling it so?

Yes, because goodness knows a perpetrator who was fit to be found guilty in court needs two decades and more to find evidence that proves that evidence in court wasn't enough to find them guilty the first time.
There may be more out there! Hey, even when the convict was found carrying the dismembered body they'd just raped and murdered, let's give them 20 years of appeals because you know...they just might not have done it.

When bricks are outlawed, only outlaws will have bricks. And maybe a little piggie or two.

Anyone who calls violent crimes, like murder and rape, 'transient offenses', and then equates shoplifting to be on the same level is someone who is too young to enter into a legitimate debate regarding criminal justice. Or, they're someone who should be watched! Because they're one of those we're talking about.
Rape and murder are transient offenses?
Tell that to the victims and the surviving family members. It's an absurd, even obscene, dismissal of the impact such violence exacts not only and obviously upon the victim, but the surviving family members. And also, the rest of society if that type of offender is let out into the public domain.
Whether they have their manhood in tact or not.
And by the way, if we're asking such a question as that posed in the OP, why is it a sexist focus?
What would be the suggestion for women who commit such egregious offenses?
It's not like they're not out there, as one Jodi Arias on trial right now in Arizona proves!
