Along with a rapidly growing majority of the world, I am an atheist. I was raised christian, attending numerous christian school in the duration of my education. I had minor issues with what was taught, but to question it or think otherwise was always looked down on. I was told my doubts about the religion as a whole was temptation of the devil, and I should flee the other way. 'Doubt your doubts before you doubt your beliefs' was a phrase I heard quite often growing up. I don't quite agree with that.
In the duration of my first and only 15 month tour of the asshole of the world, being the disgusting city of Baghdad as an Infantryman in the Army, I had a reoccurring question pop into my head; "If these people are honestly killing each other and themselves over what they believe, who's to say I, being the 'christian' is right?"
I had a handful of other doubts, but that one stuck with me for a little bit. Now I've educated myself on the subject, especially with things that I wasn't especially taught in school - evolution. I have quite a different perspective on life as a whole now, and I am quite thankful for being taught to look at the world, it's inhabitants, and 'god' from a different, more rational, critical point of view.
A few years later, here I am. I've found out that, Hawkins, Hitchens, Harris and Dennett and some very educated people, from whom I can get alot from.
This is my first forum in quite some time, and my first religious-type forum I've been apart of.
I surely hope I educate myself in many ways.
Anyway, What's the low-down?
