But this happens in observed chimps and baboons too. Once the alpha male claim his territory and have gotten rid of the competition, he also goes into punish mode of any female who does not fall in line with his rule. That is usually the only reason, if not then, most of the time females are hurt.
While I'm at it. This is more reason for the theist to except evolution. Their own behavior toward their fellow men is more then enough proof that we are just another species of animal amongst the rest inhabitant this planet and not from a perfect creation.

I think we should all just get along with each other. Sadly seems evolution of the mind is going slow. Maybe Bacon is the only thing worth a damn.
